Ok, so while I'm generally enjoying my 2019 Prime Premium, the built-in nav annoys me.

I've had experience with various phone mounting systems, such as windshield, air vent, dash (big no-no). The ProClip seems to be the most elegant solution for the Prime Premium.

My question is: How do I mount a phone mount onto the ProClip itself? Do aftermarket phone mounts work, or would I need to buy the specific phone mount for my phone model that fits with the ProClip bracket?

I'm also open to other mounting options, with a mount that doesn't obstruct the dash or windshield preferred.

ProClip sells the car mount and the telephone mount. On their website you first select your car and then your phone. I have them on all three of my cars and love them.

Thank you @Dennis_MA for your reply!

I really like the ProClip car mount, but I'm not sold on the phone mount itself and was hoping I would be able to use an aftermarket phone mount (such as a suction mount). I still have some time before a long road trip, so I'll need to consider this.

Other options like an air vent mount seems workable too, but I really don't want to have anything blocked that interferes with normal operation of the car.

A smart phone mount should be high on the dashboard and close to the driver's hand so that the driver's eyes don't have to be diverted from the road and the phone can be touched with minimal reaching.

The Proclip "Prius Prime Angled Dash Mount" is way too low and too far to the right to allow safe phone use. Forget "elegance". Think "safety".

Use a single use adhesive dashboard disc if the dashboard is too curved or too textured for a suction phone mount to adhere to it. Here's a photo of the kind of mounting position I'm talking about. This one is an iOttie Easy One Touch suction mount attached to an iOttle single use adhesive disc on a textured, curved dashboard.

    @Offline That's a fair point.

I've owned mostly iOttie dashboard/windshield mounts before (mounted on the windshield). Wouldn't mounting a mount on the dash make a permanent mark, or tear the dashboard material? I'd like to also not mount on the windshield if possible, because one thing I've missed is using a sunshade (yay, I can use one again presently!).

From my experience, the semi-permanent adhesive discs like the one from iOttie can be pealed off without leaving damage although it can take gentile cleaning with denatured alcohol to remove remaining glue residue. If it didn't peal off easily, I would apply a little heat with a hair dryer and use fishing line like I've done when removing badges from vehicle exteriors.

I don't know if they are still around but 3M used to sell a permanent adhesive dashboard disc that bonded to the dashboard so well that it was usually impossible to remove without doing significant damage. I would avoid those!!!

iOttie sells two types of dashboard discs: One has a sticky gel pad base that doesn't have adhesive. It can be reused after washing it with soap and water and letting it dry. It works fine on smooth dashboard surfaces that aren't curved. The other type is a semi-permanent single use adhesive disc - it's the type I used on the curved, textured dashboard of our Sienna shown in the photo I posted. I use the gel type in our Prius v since there's a smooth level place on a dashboard shelf to stick it.

I have no plans to remove the single use adhesive dashboard disc when I sell the Sienna. I might even leave a cell phone holder on it like I did when I sold my last Lexus. Car buyers often appreciate little touches like that.

Here's another shot of the iOttie Easy One Touch suction mount attached to an iOttle single use semi permanent adhesive disc on the textured somewhat curved dashboard of our Sienna. The mounting location leaves enough room for me to put my custom fit sun screen on the windshield. I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it might be something to consider.

I've done a lot of mixing and matching of cell phone mount components. For example, the iOttie Easy One Touch suction mount has a Garmin style 17mm ball mount making it possible to use a different brand 17mm ball mount phone holder on the iOttie suction mount base or vice versa. Or you can put a 17mm ball mount phone holder on an AMPS compatible base that has a 17mm ball. I once "created" a phone mount by combining components from at least 4 companies. The possibilities are endless.

I had the same thought the other day, regarding mixing phone holders and mounts. I really like the ProClip, but it seems that the Prime mount is a bit low. I couldn't get any definite information whether or not ProClip bases are AMPS compatible or not?

An illustration on the home page of the ProClip website shows a phone holder attached to a ProClip base using the standard 4-hole AMPS format and the website has numerous references to AMPS.
