P0A93 is that ok to drive

    I have a 2009 with 134k miles on it. just serviced last week. On Friday the dashboard went tilt!!! I took it to the Beaverton Toyota dealership. They found the P0A93 code fuel pump/inverter needs to be replaced. They charged me $126 for that. I will not be going there again except for car washes.

    My questions are:
    Is it safe to drive?
    What is a reasonable price to pay?
    What would be the signs of a water pump inverter needing to be replaced? My car sits a lot and I haven't seen any pools under my care.

    Yes. The problem is when it refuses to move. It could happen at any time.

    It is not a leak. It is a failure of the pump to move water. The inverter will overheat, and the car will shut down to avoid overheating the inverter. When the inverter cools down, you can drive a few more miles.

    Thank you both. I went back and looked at my records. I had the water pump replaced in Jan 2018. Does it make sense that I need another one? I have put on 11K miles since then

    The P0A93 code. You could also put the car in IG-ON (two presses of the Start Button with your foot OFF the brake) and then take the cap off the inverter coolant reservoir. Peer in and see if there is any turbulence in the coolant. If no turbulence, there is your confirmation.
    That is most likely a different water pump, the one for the ICE.

    Tech notes say "r/r water pump and gasket and drive belt and belt tensioner pulley bled the cooling system
    Noise quieter but still present after water pump repair. will need to replace tensioner pulley.

    These are 2 different water pumps ;).

    The note you are referencing is for the engine, and the code is for the inverter water pump:cool:.

    No, actually, the ...
    This refers the gasoline engine's water pump (which is mechanical) and is different to the inverter water pump (which is electric). You need to beware that your car has more than one water pump as has already been pointed out in this thread. In fact it has four, and these pumps we are discussing are two of them.

    I don't know/understand that my car has 4 water pumps.. I don't know much about my car which is why I am on here trying to get information. The way your response was written was insulting. If you want to help then restate your answer. Otherwise just don't read my thread.

    Your car has more than 1 water pump, the failure code points to the inverter pump. You don't have to concentrate on anything else that's provided in this thread.....just the failure points to the inverter pump
