OK in Canada with kmh speed limits we don't seem to have any speed limit display on major roads either in navigation mode or not, while traveling in the USA it automatically shows in the hud and on navigation screen,. Today I was south in Washington and had used navigation and had the display when returning to Canada I changed the mph to kph and the display now showed the local road speed limits accurately, but when you changed display to show music or hvac then back no display? Anybody have any suggestions?

No. It seems sporadic too. Also, it seems different from our 2016 Prius which doesn't have a HUD but it does show the speed limits on some major roads (not highways.. just major streets). I haven't figured out the logic behind that yet.

This is likely a function of the information contained in the map database. I have found areas of the US where no speed limit information is displayed.

I got a 2018 update in mine and the speed limit is inaccurate on some roads. It always assumes schools in session (which is fine, better safe than sorry), but on some roads the posted speed limit is 25 but the car says it's 35... that's a quick way to get a ticket since I tend to drive about 5-10 over the limit as it is.

When I have cell reception, I generally run Waze on my phone in parallel with the car GPS and have found that the speed limit in Waze is usually more accurate than the car GPS. I also like the GPS speed display on Waze, right next to the speed limit with a warning if you exceed the limit by a pre-set amount (changeable in the Waze settings). If I'm listening to Bluetooth tunes from the phone, then the Waze voice comes over the car audio just like the car GPS (two different voices).

I concur on Waze being more accurate, though not perfect. It has the added benefit of notifying of police too, which is pretty much why I can't go back to 'normal' navigation apps.

I don't often use Waze. Usually googlemaps and, on long trips, my Garmin. It seems that whenever one gps doesn't know the speed limit, neither do the others including the car. And they are also just wrong sometimes.

Btw, @Sprinterkb, you sure live in a gorgeous area if it's Abbotsford, BC. I went to school for two years in Langley. Welcome to Prius Chat. (y)

I also like the road hazards - stopped vehicle, debris on road, etc.

Is this in your Prime, or in your 2013 Prius Base?

If the later (Gen3), I'm not aware of U.S.-market Gen3s showing speed limits at all. Waze yes, Garmin yes, Prius no.

Thanks I traded my gen3 for a18 prime, just love it, so much more car, I'm used to running a Garmin with a fm receiver cable and it gives me speed limits wherever I drive and wrecks and road delays,

Traded the gen3 for a prime premium

I’m pretty sure I read in the manual that speed limits are not available on navigation in Canada. It is a US only feature.

Yup. But the weird thing is that I've seen it show up on some roads and on our 2016, I've even seen it on the MID. What's weirder is that I can drive the same roads with my Prime and not see the speed limits that I see on the 2016.
