This.. Leave the screen as it normally would be, just override the section of it needed for camera view.

So leave it on when you stop. That way it will be on when you start.

Did anyone figure this out? A couple people in this thread mention that theirs used to be full screen?

My opinion is, those people remember it wrong.

I'm afraid that it was just a brain fart. There's no way for it to work full screen. As seen in post #19, it would either be chopped off and missing most of the view or else too distorted to be useful. Had Toyota designed the screen to be positioned in landscape orientation, that would have opened up a lot of possibilities.

If even it can, you don't want the full screen for the backup camera shots. See the hypothetical views on comment #19 Backup Camera - Full Screen on 11.6in Display? | PriusChat

For myself, the backup camera is one of useless feature I never use. For one thing, the camera gets dirty so easily, I can hardly see anything on the screen most of the times. Even if I see clear view of the camera, it is so hard for me to maneuver the car while looking at the screen. So much easier to do the backing up while look behind shoulder or look outside mirrors.

It works great for me. I put three duct tape stripes on the garage floor plus a "stop" marker. As I approach the garage, the side lines in the camera line up perfectly with the sides of the garage door. Then I use the center tape to guide the center line in the camera. I stop just as the stop marker disappears at the bottom of the camera view. When I get out, I find that my tires are right at the outer tape lines and the garage door closes with just enough room for me to get past if I want to while allowing maximum room behind the car.

I use my left/right mirrors 99.999% of the time and always backup. I use the backup camera to stop so no more guessing when my rear bumper gets hit. Unfortunately Prime backup camera yellow lines don't move when you steer left/right :(

It would be nice to have a front camera/360 view for head in parking

I agree the backup camera is not useful for actually backing up, but it is useful for knowing when to stop since you can see your own bumper and therefore see exactly how close you are to objects. I use the side mirrors for alignment and the camera for distance.

I agree, it works great for me also, been using it for 2-1/2 years. I have a line of tape on the garage floor that I line up with the center line of the camera and also use a cross piece of tape for stopping. On the passenger side I have 2" clearance, this way I can open the driver's door all the way to get in and out easy.

I've backed a 21 foot boat into a garage with 2" of clearance on each side using the mirrors. It's actually not even that hard.

You guys must have mastered the use of this feature. Ever since my first back-up camera in Gen3, I just don't find the feature that useful. One thing I find useful is to see the behind of vehicle to make sure no one is standing there, but that's only possible if the camera is showing clear picture. In winter my backup camera is totally useless, because the lens get dirty from salt and slush snow after very short drive. Even in other seasons, the lens of the camera is often very dirty from mud, pollen, fogs, and so on.

Our Pathfinder came with the Birds eye view camera. But neither myself nor my wife who primarily drive the car finds that feature very useful. For one thing, we don't have a garage to back up into, and our drive way is wide and open.

Wash it daily :D (I get those monthly pass to wash every 24 hours so my other cars can benefit of it..or share the costs with friends). That way your camera lens always clear :ROFLMAO:

Well, I have to admit that I hardly ever wash my car, but even if I wash it daily it won't solve the problem in winter. As soon as I drive onto a road, it is already dirty. If I want to use the camera in winter, before starting to back up, I would have to first stop the car, get out and clean the lens, then get back into the car, then watch the clean back up camera view. Not gonna happen. What I need is something similar to windshield washer that would squirt washing fluid and wipe the lens.

True, winter is not as easy but try rain-x on it, it will help a bit. Usually I tell my kids/friends to clean it for me after they get out before I back in during winter time. Wish there is a washer for the back up camera like the one for the front head light's version.

I saw a video review for the Chevy Bolt on YouTube that showed it has this feature. He sprayed the camera lens with a windshield washer fluid line that runs to the back. How well it actually works, in the winter for example, is another story.

Hmm, the Gen 3's camera position worked for me. Even with a dirty winter coat, I can still see out the back. (Still can see even though the rear of the car is almost facing the sun as you can see the sun angle in the 1st photo).

I can see how the offset position of the camera throws people off (and add to that, the fisheye component) but the position of the camera meant that it mostly stays in the vacuum of the wake... unless the whole vehicle gets dirty lol.

The Gen 4's more centred position is worse because it always gets covered in water droplets from the wake flow.
