Replaced Dash panel, now climate control doesn't work

For the past week (!!!) I've been working on the dash of my 03. Got the brand new plastic from Camelback in Phoenix.

Got it all back together and the climate control (all of it) that's below the radio now doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is the ribbon harness that connects the two printed circuit boards. It came loose when I pulled them off the remnants of the old dash. I've had it out twice now and checked the ribbon, still no luck. I even put the nuts on the two little bolts, thinking that that might be the grounding path.

BTW, I can attest to the fact that the new center dash is NOT brittle!

Any thoughts? I'm headed out to work on it some more. As in pull it out for the 4th time.

It's been a week so my memory is hazy. I think I released the zif, but putting the cable back in, it doesn't seem to want to stay. Beginning to think I need to trace the leads with an ohmmeter and see if there's continuity between the two IC's. Kinda behind on some work (been working on a Prius) so it may be tomorrow before I can get the panel back out. I'm kinda surprised none of the roto switches work---the button switches don't even light up when you push them.

 

I got it all back together, still no indicator lites on the climate control and rear window grid indicators. But the A/C is now working, I think Max is working, too. And I know the vent control switch is working. There are 2 gen 2 prii in Phoenix. If I can get an afternoon I may go see if they'll sell me a couple of IC's. Looks to me like the ZIF connector on the main climate control board is broken--doesn't suck down and hold the tape harness to the sub board where all the rotating switches are located. Mea Culpa, if I can get those two boards, my problem should resolve itself. I have a new skill set, I can get the dash disconnected and out of the car in about 15 minutes. Getting acquainted with the way the wiring connectors unlock helps a lot.

For now, I'm gonna quit while it's working--if not good, at least okay. It all looks quite nice, tho.

Upshot, I think, is that that ribbon wiring doesn't need to be unzif'd. It can all be transferred to a new dash wired together. Ya learn and pass it on

 

It's been over two years and I don't remember. Don't have a Prius anymore, either. Chap did a writeup about removing the very fragile surround, and I think there's a Youtube vid available, too. The toughest thing is to get the surround out without shattering it. They do break, getting very brittle after a minimum of 16 years in a car. Replacement Center Dash Panel | PriusChat

IF I remember correctly, the knobs do pull off, the pushbutton plastic things come in from behind.
