New Prius Owner, ? about adding amplifier

probably just gonna do either 1x10" jl audio that comes in a box w inline amp or rockford fosgate at 30A just to keep things under wraps. But yeah changing the 12v battery would be smart.

 

I put in a five channel amp with subwoofer and I’ve had no problems in two years. I have a Prius V and average 40 mpg. I believe V gets less mpg because it is boxy and therefore not as aerodynamic as the other Prius models.

 

I wanted to revive this thread..

I just recently upgraded my stereo system (again)..

I took the advice in this thread and went with a Class D 4 channel amp..

I now have a high end system running off a brand new Optima yellow top.. no noticeable difference in electrical components ( just WAY better music quality)..

Anyone running a high end ( although that term can be subjective and relative) system in there gen 3?

Mine: Focal K2 Power 165K ( up front )

Focal PC 165 ( in rear )

JL Audio XD400/4v2 amp

Pioneer AVH-4500NEX headunit ( I think this is their flag ship model or one of their best )

All copper wiring for amp kit..

Memphis capacitor..

And finally .. I’m thinking about returning to audio shop with 10 gauge all copper speaker wire to hook the amp up directly to speakers instead of using the flimsy OEM speaker wires.. unfortunately they will have to drill into my door but I’m fine with that..

Retired my 2010 so the system is boxed and waiting for it's next home.

 

Hi.. I currently have a 2010 Toyota Prius and I have recently decided to upgrade the sound system by adding 2 12 inch subwoofers. The subs I am thinking to install are 2 pioneer tsw311s4 accompanied by a pioneer GM-D9601 2400w monoblock amplifier. I have been told to make sure the stock battery and alternator can handle that sort of ampage. Can someone please assist and let me know of anything needs to change. I have seen a video with someone running a kicker sub which was 600w rms on the standard battery. I am looking to run 2 400w rms or even 1 1000w rms sub. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

 

Just to be clear, the Kicker sub puts out exactly "zero watts". It is capable of handling 600 watts. You could put 10,000 watts worth of speakers in a Prius. If your only sending them 600 or maybe a little more, you will be fine That would be kind of ridiculous, but just making a point. Its not the wattage capabilities of the speakers you need to worry about. Its the drain the amps create that matters.
What are the fuse ratings for the amps your considering ?
