    Barely. The HiHy was also launched for the 2006 MY. :) I assumed they were co-developed.

    That’s right. They were the first hybrid SUVs. Ford was ahead of the times there. We still have a 2nd Gen Escape Hybrid in my office fleet.

    They’re trying. At least the Escape will be back in hybrid and new PHEV form.

    Ford was nearly gone. There's a different between not trying, giving up, and keeping the lights. Ford's finances meant delaying hybrid plans in favor of staying in business. In addition to the new Escape, there is also the new Explorer, whose system will likely be going into the F150 and Mustang soon.
