P0A93 error - what should I do?

    Yesterday night I got this error: P0A93.
    Only just read the error now.

    Something to do with the intercooling system?
    On another thread someone posted and they topped up 'somewhere' and it seemed to go away.

    Where should I be looking?
    How can I diagnose further before calling a mechanic? (Would rather fix myself though.)

    Aside: one of the youtube videos said Toyota had a vehicle recall for this fault and replaced. I called Toyota and they said there were no recalls for my vehicle. Just thought I would mention.

    Is the car safe to drive?
    What happens if the fault doesn't get fixed fairly soon?
    If I need to replace a part, what part should I be looking for?
    On youtube, the mechanic fixes without needing to take anything apart - it's on the bottom left of the front of the car - I'm guessing easy to replace the part??

    Any advice would be great.

    P0A93 is the inverter cooling water pump failure. This pump circulates cooling water for the inverter mounted in the engine compartment. If the pump has failed, this can result in over temperature conditions on the inverter. The pump is located directly behind the driver side head light. New pumps are available online for around 60-80 dollars. Typically, this is a $550ish job at a dealer in the US. If you're able to do it yourself, it can be less than $100 total.

    @TMR-JWAP Thanks for the reply. Given the choice, I'll do myself! It's just a case of unscrewing bolts.

    10-15 minutes for a mechanic. 30-45 minutes for inexperienced - just guessing.
    Going on what I saw on youtube.

    QUESTIONS:

    - Is there anything I can do to 100% confirm the problem is the inverter cooling water pump?
    Like someone said in a previous post that they topped up and all was OK with no further errors.

    - ebay has lots of parts - I'm guessing non OEM. Are these OK?

    If you press the power button 2 times, with your foot NOT on the brake pedal, the inverter cooling water pump should start. Look in the reservoir (just to the left of the invertr) and you should see ripples in the fluid. The fluid level should be somewhere around the middle of the reservoir (if I remember correctly, it the joint where the upper half is joined to the lower half). No ripples = bad pump. Some ripples can still=bad pump, intermittent pump.

    @TMR-JWAP I did as you said. I pressed the power button twice (without foot on brake). Loads of lights come on...
    But I hear nothing else being turned on. Should I be hearing?
    I looked at the reservoir - nothing - but then nothing turned on.

    Let me know what I'm doing wrong.

    You didn’t do anything wrong. If you don’t see the fluid movement it means the pump is bad. Replace the pump with a new Toyota pump. Don’t use a cheap aftermarket pump.
