Floor covering options

Yeah, definitely do one or the other. Often dealers add on options to increase the price. The regular mats it comes with are fine. They will get dirtier and harder to clean then the all weather rubber mats. So i would go for one or the other, but definitely don't buy both.

 

I've had both type of mats for all my Priuses - I put the carpeted mats in for late spring/summer/early fall, then put the all-weather mats in for snow/slush season.

That reminds me - i have to buy all-weather mats for my wife's new Prime!

 

Whatever you do don't put the all weather mats over the summer mats. It's one or the other. Personally, I like the all weather mats year round. They are made just for the Prime and fit like Weather Techs. In fact, they may be made by WeatherTech. I was told they are made in the USA.

 

Agree with the other posts, one or the other considering the high dealer cost.....I prefer the all weather mats for easier clean-up and longevity.

 

My wife, before she passed, got me the hard, thin vinyl mats which I used over carpeted factory mats for 5 years in my 2012 PIP, and am now using in the same way on my Prime Advanced. No, there is no interference whatsoever with pedals, although rear mats don't quite fit. The advantage is: weatherproofed floor, and noticeably quieter car.

If you buy the Toyota mats, they are likely cheaper from Amazon. That is where my son & I both got the Toyota all weather mats for our Prius vehicles.

 

My Prius came with the carpeted mats because my deler orders them all that way. I bought the Toyota all-weather mats from Amazon and swapped them out. I agree you cannot use both at the same time.

 

You cannot use both at the same time. Toyota has warning labels on the mats warning against that and both cannot fit in the hold-downs for the drivers side floor mat.

 

There are/were no hold downs on either Prius for the mats. Toyota Corporate does not want a repeat of the unintended acceleration fiasco under which it was sued; I understand this. I'm a private citizen who has examined and tested my particular situation and found the installation to be satisfactory. It must be noted that there are floor mats and there are floor mats; the thin hard vinyl mats on top of the carpeted mats grip them with hundreds of nail like projections and lie completely flat, and are well away from any pedals. I'm not encouraging anyone to do what I've done; I'm merely stating the facts in my case with my car. On my Honda Insight and my Acura Type R, I had used Dynamat installed/glued under the mats, and inside of the doors; this proved fairly effective in quieting those cars. The installation, though, was pretty expensive.

Floors are carpeted from the factory; no mats. Accessories are usually added at the port of entry or by the dealer.

 

The Toyota Owners App shows both of my Toyota vehicles, in there it shows what came from the factory and what was added at the port. It even has detailed records of my 2002 Tundra.

Mine shows the edge guard and carpeted floor mats/ cargo mat were added at the port.

 

I don't care how much the mats cost, I always buy both, carpet and rubber. After you spend 30K on a new Prius, who cares what the mats cost?!

The Toyota carpet mats seem to be much thinner and lesser quality than in the past. But Toyota made sure they won't slide around. The bottom is some type of Velcro or something, and they stay put! I do a lot of hiking and going to nature trails, so I also bought the rubber mats and threw them right on top of the thin carpet mats. They don't slide around either, and fit like a glove. Well worth the money. Last thing I want to be doing is keep cleaning/vacuuming those carpet mats. Rubber is easy, just wipe with a wet rag or hose them off, and throw 'em back in.

 

I know this is an old thread, but that sounds like a great mod. Can you post a link to these plastic mats, or brand name and picture so I could find some.

 

The car is shipped from Japan with no floor mat, I think. The dealer option of carpet mat or all weather mat is almost always included into the car sold in the US. You can try to negotiate the price of the floor mat off from MSRP telling them you don't want that option. You can always buy them cheaper after you purchase the car. Often dealer will just give the mat to you and take of the price. You can't use both carpet mat and all weather mat at the same time, but people do like to switches between them for all weather in winter and carpet in summer. That said in my local, all weather mat is must have for the salt and snow in winter and dirt and mud in summer time.

Are OEM floor mat different from USA and CANADA? I did not like the OEM all weather floor mat for Gen3, and ended up buying WeatherTech. The all weather mat that came with PRIME was heavier than Gen3 and covered bigger area with molded shape much like WeatherTech one. So I kept it. At some point when I have to buy a new one to replace it, I probably buy another OEM mat. Only thing is that they don't sell just driver's side. Most likely the only one needing replacement is the driver's side.

 

But noticeably less sturdy than the Weathertech. I'm using the factory all weather mats for now, but if they wear out I'll replace with Weathertech. So far, the factory mats aren't wearing very well.

 

Yeah, but you don't get the "GREEN" leaf symbol and PRIME logo on Weathertech or Husky mat. I haven't priced each option, but If I can find driver's side OEM mat only on ebay cheap, I will go for it, otherwise, the set price for Weathertech might be cheaper?
