If I am a high school student looking to buy a car and keep it for 35 years which car should I buy if I really care about fuel economy? I also care about maintenance cost and reliability.

Buy one that runs on hydrogen or Nuclear Fusion as those will be the only fuels in 35 years.
    I think Delorean made one.

Both have large batteries that will eventually die in both. Do you need something large like a rav4? Do you have somewhere youll charge the prime?

I don't think I need something large like a rav4 but my parents insist that I would in college. Not sure whether to take their word on it. I do charge Prius Prime at home and at my house when I go off to college.

That is false, many people in my state keep cars for more than 35 years. I even saw a 1955 Ford F-350 still working. Keep car=save depreciation.

In North Idaho we get a lot of snow but they don't use salt and we rarely get ice storms.

You’re very unlikely to keep you first car for 35 years.

Assuming that you don’t have a whole lot of money, I’d suggest you find a 2008ish Prius. Not flashy, but economical and available cheap.

When you’re trying to establish your life, boring cars — cheap and easy to buy, to feed, and to upkeep — are the best kind.

keep in mind, prius is only 20 years old, and there aren't many left from that era. too many expensive repairs

Here’s a car celebrating its 29th birthday soon:):

It has another date on the lift to fix these;):

But at 110k miles, this 91 Corolla still has some good life left in it(y).
