Recently, I found a 2013 Prius II.. Here's the info.. Please help and advise this Newbie get a prius.

    2 owners
    93K miles
    $6k out of door
Salvage title (due to Hail damage. No accident.)
    4 Good tires. (almost New)
Seller provide myautohistoryreport (posting screen shot)

I run test drive, It has more power than my 2002 Honda Accord.
Newly oil changed (can't smell oil burn etc).
Alignment ok, tested on freeway 68mil/hrs.
Only the rear wheels make noise. (Don't know what noise).

How can check the HV battery? Since this is not California car and it has Salvaged title. No warrenty on battery.

Feel free to post for any advice or suggestions before i pull a trigger to pay him.

    welcome!

you can check the battery with tech stream. it won't tell you how long it will last, but will tell you the delta between cells under load.

i have no idea what that message means, something to do with the salvage probably. has the body been repaired?

reset trip a, take it for a long test drive under varied conditions, and see what she reports for average mpg's
    not sure what 'crushed' means?

Any documentation on that or are you just taking the seller's word for it?

    Thanks for reply

This is 3rd owners.. She told Salvage due to Hail Damaged. The car looks like had been Hail Damaged, but not report showed. No AirBag Deployed showed on the report and can not tell if the body has damage or not. Thanks

I just run an autoCheck on my own and No Air Bag deployed. We have Emailed to insurance Agent showed on myautohistoryreport and received a reply Salvage title due to hail damage back on 9/2015. But a rebuilt, DUPLICATE TITLE RECONSTRUCTED showed on the report back on 2018, that's look scare.

I recommend running the Dr. Prius App which gives you an estimate of the battery health and remaining capacity. To run that you need an OBDII bluetooth adapter. Dr. Prius suggests the Carista adapter. It is available on Amazon.

Of course, there are other risks besides the battery but if that is all that you can afford, it could be worth the risk..

The title goes to salvage when the insurance co pays the owner and takes ownership of the title. Later, after repair and inspection by dmv, when the car is registered, the title will come back as rebuilt (in many states). I drive a salvage (rebuilt) 2015 due to a front end collision for 2 years now and I have not had any problem at all. 2 year ago with 24k miles on it I paid $9000. I now have 48K miles and only did oil changes and new tires.
You might want to ask the seller (if they are the owner) how long have they driven it with the rebuilt title.

I believe the HV battery can be replace by module by module.. If it fail on me after 30days. I can replace pieces by pieces for low cost. If Engine have been replaced or body damaged, it isn't worth it.

So I'd say the salvage title will most likely have no effect on how the car runs....but it DOES lower the price to about two thirds of normal book value. (I've been driving rebuilt titled cars for many years now.) They are good to buy and drive, reselling them is another matter. Most people are afraid of them, so be sure not to pay anywhere near book value.
    Good luck with it!

    Thanks for another input

I just run another test drive and run about 25min to Freeway about 75-80mile/hrs, hard brake and U turn and bumpy road etc.. All them running well. The current KBB value around $8k on 2013 prius Good condition and 2/3% off about 5.5k. So, $6k out of door is about fair price I guess.

All gen 3s have water pumps. it being a consumable part, any car with water pump will eventually need to be replaced.

Plastic under body panel covers majority under of the car, that must have been a quick inspection for rust & small leaks if panels weren’t dropped.
