    Achieved 200,000 today in my 2008 Prius. I bought it new when gas was $4 gallon, and it was never love at first sight :) It took a few test drives before my head overruled my heart, and since I have never regretted ordering this car.

    This car has never been back to the dealership for service. The only time I went back to Toyota was to get a key programmed that I bought on E-bay. Also, this car has never been to a professional service technician, unless you count 1 window replacement, tire mounting, alignment, and Texas safety inspections.

    This Prius 2nd gen gave me amazing reliability. In 200,000 miles I have:

    1.) replaced synthetic blend oil every 5000 miles
    2.) replaced transmission fluid once
    3.) replaced inverter coolent pump once (failed on highway, but was able to get it home).
    4.) replaced steering wheel wiring coil (air recirculate button quit working)
    5.) replaced cabin air filter several times
    6.) replaced front drivers side wheel bearing assy at approx. 160,000 miles
    7.) replaced engine air filters when dirty.
    8.) bought a couple 12V batteries.
    9.) replaced the drivers side window seal
    10.) replaced the engine accessory drive belt
    11.) replaced spark plugs 1X around 110,000 miles (they looked good)
    12.) replaced all brake pads, 1X around 90,000 (they didn't need replaced)
    13.) replaced all struts, 1X, I'm not sure that helped (it still drives like a wet sponge)

    In short, normal stuff, nothing major.

    I am amazed that car still runs great with:

    1). 3 of the 4 wheel bearings are original and quiet.
    2). Original HV traction battery, I still get 46 mph driving fairly fast.
    3). Original power steering, radiator, and brake fluids.

    Something else that makes this car special, about 3 years ago I installed my own "DIY Aftermarket Adapative Cruise Control", my own invention, which you can read about on this site. It still works great, I use it everyday on my commute.

    This car has done countless weekly commutes between Dallas TX and Mobile AL. It is an amazing piece of machinery, and has surpassed all my expectations. Thank you Toyota!!!

    Our 2004 Prius has over 230,000 miles. Odomoter reads about 10,500 over actual miles due to installing a rebuilt instrument cluster.

    1) Original traction battery's life being extended with Prolong since it started acting up in late 2017.
    2) Original 12V failed, replacement Optima might still be in service but I was duped into an early replacement.
    3) Did not replace hybrid transaxle fluid.
    4) Original brake pads.
    5) Lifetime MPG not available.
    6) Oil (M1) and filter changes every 5K.

    On about the fourth inverter coolant pump. Also replaced the three way valve.

    Got plenty of money's worth out of the heavily discounted / out of region six-year 100K miles extended warranty. Thanks Toyota dealership dude who posted extended warranty Internet pricing on the old Yahoo! Groups forum!

    Could not find Package VII on the signup form, so used "N/A." There were nine packages offered during at least the early months of production of the 2004.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
    Only two modules , just last weekend.

    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery?
    @ about 150k, yellow top

    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
    Nope

    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    Nope

    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    Not sure

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
    High milage

    We bought this 2008 NZ Model Prius sight unseen from a no reserve online auction with 452932 km (~282K Mi). My wife and I took a plane to Wellington, then drove the car back to Auckland ~653 km, driving from about 2pm to 11pm, most important stop was at a place called Johnsonville to check it over, there I topped up the oil, it was above the low marker but not by much. At the start of the journey it complained with beeps ~ every 5 mins, the CEL, and the red triangle. I had my OBD2 scanner and saw it said P0A80 & P0012. BTW its not a great scanner, a better one is coming. After topping up the oil at Johnsonville upon restart there was no CEL. Anyway throughout the journey the car's health improved, time between beeps got longer and longer. Long story short - we drove this sight unseen Prius hundreds of kms home, couldn't ask for a better result. Since then it has gotten healthier again, the red triangle has gone and every drive is trouble free.

    I want this car to be really good, some work I've done includes a bunch of detailing, plus: Oil + Filter, hybrid battery fan clean, clean throttle body, clean MAF sensor, check 12V.
    Some work I'm going to do: Radiators fluids, definitely inverter water pump maybe engine water pump, serpentine belt, air filter, cabin filter, tranny fluid ATF WS, PCV Valve, and a DR Prius scan with the new OBD2.
    I've got spark plugs on the way from amazon because they're just ridiculously cheap compared to buying them here in NZ, like 70% off landed cost. Need to figure out some brakes stuff as well.

    I have no service history on this car.
    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No. It looks to be original and untampered with.
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Sadly I have no idea if the battery is original or not.
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Someone wrote in the engine bay 'Transmission serviced at 272600 km' (~170K Mi)
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? IDK if they were ever changed.
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Not sure of lifetime. From it's first tank I got 5.5L/100km out of it.
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? The last owner appeared to use a mechanic for oil changes at 10K intervals. They had it for four years and did 50K km's a year for four years. (~31K Mi). I intend to do 2-3 short interval oil changes (5K kms, 3K Mi); then I'll move to 9K kms (~5.6K Mi). I'm using Nulon fully synthetic 5w-30.
    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Sure, and the hybrid battery fan as well.

    I want to take this car over 500K kms (311K Mi)

    Lots of battery issues and general wear and tear as you'd expect, but still going strong (if a little battered!)...

    I have 220ish on my 07 I bought it with 80k immediately put a hitch on it and pull a single place snowmobile trailer to buy sleds and atv’s which I fix and flip or part out.
    Never replaced the hv battery. Did do water pump and transaxle fluid, brakes, wheel bearings and muffler. Run Walmart 10w40 synthetic with from xg filter and change oil every 9-10k. I also run Lucas oil additive.

    They make this synthetic oil that is supposed to be safer to use on the cats when you’ve got an oil burner. Supposedly what plugs up the cats is the burning sulphate and phosphate and this new stuff doesn’t have as much. I’m trying it, so we’ll see. Any ideas Comentariate?

    Motor Oil Additive;).

    BG Products has a complete line of products and the MOA is an additive pack that helps keeps the oil basic and protect the oil from fuel contamination that turns the oil acidic:cool:.

    Guess what happens if a basic environment turns slightly acidic:whistle:?

    I found it helped stabilize my 2010’s oil consumption which was at a quart every 5k miles :).

    My 2005 Prius is now at 205k miles. I bought it brand new in October 2005 (which for the first 7 years seemed foolish indeed), and having almost no knowledge of cars....I am a “sucker” who brings Egbert (that’s my cars name) into the Toyota dealership for repairs. It’s now getting a bit tricky because they stop telling you to get X# mileage services and I have to try to keep up on it on my own, but I aim for another 100-200k if I can. I just got Eggy detailed for the first time for his 200k birthday. Here’s his picture. He needs new spark plugs soon, and he still has his original battery. His biggest faults are he is kinda becoming a creaky old man in his midlife, and he’s not enjoying right turns as much anymore (which Toyota said they didn’t find anything wrong that’s causing that noise.) But it’s ok, I can’t hear as well anymore either, so we just listen to music to get past each others quirks. The last 7 years he’s been paid off have been blissful and I hope we keep on rolling.

    Hi Egbert4ever, Welcome!
    I have always thought that early Prius buyers were either clueless, or very knowledgeable. Those who only partly understood the technology often misunderstood it.

    If it's a thumping or rumbling or growling noise, then it's likely a worn wheel bearing. It can be difficult to find out if and which one it is until it gets a little worse.

    Don't forget to tell us when you reach 299,999 miles.

    Just passed 200,000 miles yesterday in my 2006 Prius that I purchased in March 2006.

    I had to replave the HV battery pack twice. The first replacement lasted just over a year (enough to not be under the warranty). I am about 3 weeks into the second replacement.

    Other things that I have had to replace are the MFD (touch screen stopped responding) and the amplifier under the front passenger seat. Both I replaced myself with parts from ebay and instructions from PriusChat. I wish I had tracked more things. I noticed MPG increases after each HV battery update.

    Most annoying service is the HID headlight bulb replacement. It was the one time I tried going back to the dealer and they first argued with me that the Prius did not have HID bulbs. After they figured out that my model did they said that they did not have any in stock and would have to order one. I told them that I actually had one but they claimed that they did not want to risk damaging the car if I had a defective replacement bulb. That was the last time I set up at the dealership service center because I found a garage that replaced it for a lot less than the dealership wanted to charge.

    The ICE is burning oil like crazy. I have to carry a quote with me in case the low oil light starts to go off.

    I really need the suspension replaced but I have strongly be considering a new car.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No. Pack was replaced PRIOR to my buying our Current Prius. Though we HAVE replaced 2/28 Cells this last week...
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? I think it was replaced prior to me.
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Not yet...
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? I haven't had to yet...

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? After gernading the last engine, Yeah... Every 5,000 miles
    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? It's over 225K. Will do next time I'm at the car... IF I remember it...

    Your PCV valve is likely gummed open. You probably are not burning oil in the traditional sense. If you are Abel, look down your throttle body with a light and see if there’s a pool of oil down there.

    I've posted here before when the car just rolled over 200K miles, but I'd like to update. I now have almost 214K miles and have owned the car for just about 2 years. Bought it with 175K miles.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
    No, as far as I know it's the original pack. I did use Prolong system on it twice.​

    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery?
    Yes, I had to replace it about a year or so ago. I went with Bosch sold at Pep Boys for $130 installed. So far so good, no issues.​

    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
    Yes, I replaced it as soon as I bought the car and started participating here on PC. It was highly recommended an I replaced it at around 175K miles with Toyota WS fluid.​

    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    No, I did not, but I believe the previous owner had them done at around 125K miles. I checked and they look good so far.​

    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    It's in my signature Fuelly badge. I believe it is around 44.7mpg at the moment.​

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
    I have tried 5K mile OCI, then 10K mile OCI. I am back to 5K mile OCI. I use Mobile 1 Synthetic for high mileage cars 5W30 and Toyota oil filter.​

    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
    Why? You've seen one Prius ODO, you've seen them all. Mine is about to roll over 214K miles and it's the 2007, newer type combination meter.​

    Well, we have a 2015 Prius. We are a sports family with 4 kids and lots of sports and that is why we got it. This is our 2nd Prius. We got one in 2012 and replaced it at around 150k in 2015. Well, We should pass into the 200k club in the next week or 2. Yes.. its a 2015.

    Here's my answers...

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
    No.

    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery?
    No.

    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
    No.

    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    No.

    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    I believe its around 43mpg but sadly I don't drive it as I should and so mileage suffers a bit.

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
    We change every 8k to 10k. Synthetic.

    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
    I'll return to post it in a couple weeks. Its about 400 miles short.

    We have taken good care of it but honestly the car has been everything it was sold as and more. We bought it for the mileage and its done exactly that for us. Toyota should really market this car for the on the go family. We liked it so well we replaced with the same red color and now that I type this I hope it doesn't nickel and dime us but to this point its been awesome.

    I don't think I came by and posted when we broke 200k on our 07 right before we moved 3 years ago. We're at about 255k right now. I'm trying to catch up to it with my 98 Grand Am, though, it's at 246k ;-)

    1 brake job, 1 battery replacement. I'm pretty sure that the replacement battery is screwed, but it's not screwed enough for the car to throw a code, so no one's going to mess with it. :-S it only gets about 36mpg since the battery was replaced, 2 years ago, at about 215k.

    She's taken some obnoxious body damage, has a good chunk of rust on her driver side rear door, but we hope to keep her going well through 300k... :-D

    So against all sensible wisdom I bought the cheapest MOTed and running prius in the uk at the time. 277,999 miles ex-taxi 2008 gen2 with no service history.
    Luna as she's been to the moon and is on the way back has been a bit troubled but has not yet been recovered and has got home under her own power so I'm claiming that as a win.
    Luna unsurprisingly has some issues that I am fixing in my now very badly named thread about diy radiator replacement.

    So I have a bit of oil, is that the gummed pcv? It is losing about half a litre every 500 miles.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
    Not yet. Seems to run at 16.2v on the modules. Good / bad I have no idea. Orginal don't know? I did replace the inverter water pump as I got the triangle, abs and mil​

    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery?
    Yes with a Hancook yellow top. £100 and fit perfectly. And I took a picture for some reason. ​

    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
    Yes, I replaced it this weekend.​

    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    Yes the front discs were thin on my 0re-mot check so I got an axial set of pads and discs for under £35 delivered. New old stock and look good so far. Replaced them myself for the first time ever.​

    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    52.9 uk mpg so probably more like 42 us mpg and 5.2l/100km I think. Not had a good run without the MIL on yet.​

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
    Changed at 279,000 with fully synthetic shell helix 5w-30 and a cheap filter. New plug and fibre washer. Intending to do every 5k​

    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
    Currently 279,800 will post a photo at 300,000 in a year or so hopefully


    Will my gamble pay off? Will Luna live to 350,000 miles or 5 years? Will the rust claim Luna for scrap heap before then? Who knows... The saga continues... but over the next 5 years including Brexit so anything could happen, just in slow motion.
