How much should the 100k service cost?

    I'm gonna play Dutch uncle:

    How about, for an exercise: list what's involved, per the US Warranty and Maintenance Guide. There's a fair bit of fluff, so just list what you think is crucial. Maybe at the end of that exercise you'll have a ballpark number.

    Check installation of driver's floor mat

    Inspect and adjust all fluid levels

    Replace engine oil and oil filter (0W-20)

    Replace engine/inverter coolant

    Rotate tires

    Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

    There's a lot of wiggle room on that list.

    By now you should understand that dealers have figured out that you want the convenience of asking for "the (rounded off odometer) service" and they have put together packages that include everything the car actually needs plus 7 or 8 very simple, ultra-high-mark-up services that would sound good anytime.

    If you just ask for the actual service listed in the book as a la carte items, you'll save.

    If you take the time to inspect (and have the experience to judge results) for the fluids & brakes, you'll save even more.

    Walk in blind and ask for that "100k service" and you're probably looking at $800+. They'll do extra stuff, some of which will be nice, but none truly necessary.

    • Check installation of driver's floor mat
      • Free- safety related.
    • Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
      • You're alreading going to pay them to change the coolant and motor oil. Washer fluid, Brake fluid and ATF are the only others in the whole car. This is an opener to get you thinking about brake fluid flush- which might be legit for age and usage.
    • Replace engine oil and oil filter (0W-20)
      • Same as any other oil change you've paid them for. Should include the tire rotation.
    • Replace engine/inverter coolant
      • I don't know what they're charging for these two simple and related services but $200 wouldn't shock me.
    • Rotate tires
      • Under $20 if a la carte, but probably included in oil service.
    • Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
      • Does your state require this for an inspection sticker? Many do. It's possible you already paid somebody else for this same inspection recently. It's trivial to do once the wheels are off, and they're already coming off for the tire rotation. Mostly an opener for brake service. Probably not needed this early but it is possible, and I'd expect around $300 per axle if you hired the dealer to do it.

    I''ve crossed out the fluff. A full brake inspection, is not fluff. But the "visual" inspection (every 5K), that's fluff:

    There's a footnote "3" beside that item, which leads to this:

    So essentially, an engine oil and filter change, tire rotation, and engine coolant change.

    they charge $20 for tire rotation, $69 for oil change and tire rotation, so its really the coolant replacement, how much should the dealer charge?

    why does coolant drop to 50k changes after the initial 100k?

    Honda's like that too. I guess as the system ages, crud builds up faster? It gets them both in sync, anyway.

    yeah, dealers can be tough like that. any others you can shop? i would just tell them what specific services you want, don't mention 100k.

    Ask them if they were planning to do the inverter too? It's pretty deceptive: if you read everything but the footnote, you figure you have you're marching orders. It's poorly worded.

    Up here, there's no mention of a longer inverter interval in the documentation; both are supposed to be changed at 120 mo / 160000 km, thereafter every 60 months / 80000 km. Except: there's a sticker on the inverter reservoir, that says this, lol:

    Spark plugs, at least according to the schedule, are later. Maybe 120k miles??

    Transaxle fluid change is at owner's discretion; Toyo says nothing about it.

    I did my own 100k service myself saved time and didnt have to deal with dealer fluff. I changed my plugs, drained my coolant and cleaned my egr passages and changed the oil and did a very low fuel tank can of sea foam. Also changed out transmission oil too. At 115k i changed out my front struts and changed those junk control links and now my car runs super better then oem at least it feels that way driving. Next is change out my thermostat for added piece of mind.
