    Ok 3 comments,

Great write up, great pics. Too bad you did not start a new thread.

Your car is not a Gen 2, so you did not have bladder issues. This deserves to be in a Gen 3 forum where it could help other Gen 3 owners.

This is a 12 year old thread, no one has posted since 2007. These people may not even post here any more.

I am going to say that, in a wreck, that will split open, the gas will evaporate as well as flood everywhere. It will flood onto the floor of the boot, pour over the 12v battery, and pour over and through the HV battery and computer. Then, when you switch off the car (or it does an emergency disconnect of the HV battery) there will always be sparks in the contractor relays which will be covered in petrol.

I love the idea. But the risks are huge. Get someone to make a welded aluminium case, fit the whole rig into that, and have a drain hole, onto the road for disasters. Also make sure sparks can’t occur inside the fuel-air mixture in the tank. Also, please get a huge amount of life insurance with critical illness cover!

I used to always have one of those. However in NZ we have these plastic ones, and they always leak just enough vapour to make the car smell like a gas station, so I dont do that any more. Do the metal jerry cans do the same (vent gas despite tight seal, even when it isn't hot in the car). If not I will probably get one to store in the boot of my car! :)
