Has anyone had the recent software update recall done and did you notice the exhaust was louder after the recall? I screen shot of what they did is below. Our 2012 is my wife's car that I only drive occasionally so I'm not 100% positive that it happened exactly with the software update, but I drove it shortly before the update and all ways normal, and I drove it about a week after the update and when sitting still the exhaust is a lot louder inside and outside the car than it was before the update. It sounds as if there is an exhaust leak and/or the engine is running at a higher RPM than it did (when sitting still). I looked briefly under the car and did not notice anything obviously wrong, I suppose I need to jack it up and really have a good look, but has anyone else noticed the same after the update? It seems to drive normal and mileage is normal.
how many miles on her? could she have run over something? i don't recall reading of this problem before. lower mpg's and less power, yes.
Just shy of 70k miles. Drove about 5 hours a couple days ago, 75-80mph most of the way and about 42mpg trip average according to the cars computer. Everything appeared normal except for the louder exhaust when stopped.
BUT......you really should check it out thoroughly because an exhaust leak can be DEADLY under the right circumstances. If it really is louder because the engine is running faster, this is sometimes an early sign of HV battery failure.
On my quick inspection it sounded like all of the sound was coming out the tailpipe, but I will jack it up and get under there for a closer look. Thanks for the tip on the HV battery, I'll keep a close watch on that. Am I right in guessing that city mileage is the first thing to go when the HV battery begins to fail?
So far that's normal.. though the HV battery fan runs almost all the time, and has since we got the car. I'm in a warm climate though..
nothing you can do about the hybrid battery except make sure the intake grille is clear, and the fan is clean
