Any New Tire Recommendations? Prius v Five

We went with Continental PureContact 225/50R17 98V, which solved the speedo error and are delivering same mileage as the OEM TOYOs. These have a “rim saving” protruding bead, too. Hard to curb alloys with these, and they handle late-appearing potholes well. Car tracks like it is on rails.

 

Maybe just get another set of Premiers, sounds like they've done good for you. I went with Primacy MXM4 (have yet to put them on, using snow tires right now) but was on the fence, considered the Premiers too.

 

Newbie here. Wasn't sure how to start a post. And, well, I have a tire question also.
I have a 2013 wagon with almost 82,000 miles. Was bought used with close to 30,000 miles. The tires are Sumitomo Tour Plus LSV 215/50R17 91V M+S. (Not the originals.) I'm not happy with the tires, and the treads are getting to the point of needing replaced. Reason I do not like them is that I feel there is some slippage in wet weather, plus if hitting a small pothole or bump about the same time as braking, they "do their own thing". I have moved to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area, so there will be snow driving in winter, but I do not have the space to have both winter and summer tires. Looking at all season tires, and would like some input from those who might have had some of these. Pros/cons, and did you use them in snow? Continental Pure Contact or Michelin Primacy. While I had Yokohamas on a Corolla back in the 80's, and they lasted, I now am hesitant about the brand, and the Avid Touring. Any input on these? Any others you would highly recommend? Thanks for your time.

 

We run the Continental Pure Contact in 225/50R17 98V (v Five) and are pleased with both ride and MPG.

 

I was shopping for tires just last week so I can contribute myself as one data point.

I bought the Michelin Premier A/S to replace the Ecopia.

I almost went with the Defender T+H but the mechanic says those tires are not rated V for the Prius V. I read that many prius owner vouched for the traditional Defender, with the recent renewal T+H expected to have even better handling.

Based on what I read the Premier A/S has proven itself to be some of the best all-season tire, especially good in rain compared to other tire marketed as all season. The good handling comes at the cost of lower mileage warranty compared to the defender, and reduced 2~5 mpg. I don't mind that trade off for improved safety.

Noise-wise I can't tell the difference between the new Premier A/S and the replaced Ecopia.

 

Bought the Michelin Defenders; I had had a flat on the OEM Ecopias, didn't like the poor traction, and don't trust the Toyo brand due to negative previous blowout and flats experience. Ended up with the Defender models due to cost: about $300 installed. Have about 33,000 miles on the 5,000 mile rotated/balanced Defenders which collected 4 more nails in about 2 years!!! The traction problem is the same as Ecopias, and probably due to greater torque of electric drive and 42PSI/40PSI pressures I kept. Tires look barely worn; they look good to make the 80K mileage warranty with no problem. Wet grip in our extremely rare rains is not very good, and the tire noise is not to my liking. It's sad that clients can't properly evaluate tires for themselves, to determine their suitability prior to the longterm commitment. Also, tire performance options are too limited for my Prime, without buying expensive optional wheels, which I consider ridiculous; the "bare" factory alloys look great.
I'm looking for better traction with quieter tires.
It's always a compromise.

That's interesting about your car doing "it's own thing" when braking over a pot hole. Mine does the same.
