Good heavens! That's where I have The Spaceship serviced. These are the same jokers who gleefully told me there was absolutely NO WAY to protect the cat under a Prius mk2. Time to switch to Hills of Woodford....!!! NUU_M3 ?
I do have that feeling that they didn't care too much, shame as I was thinking of getting my next car from them. I have considered an Auris Hybrid, but after that car getting targeted I'll be having to protect the new car just like I've had to my current one. On a different note, took my other car out for a drive today, set off someone's car alarm as I drove past. That's what happens when you take a cat out of the exhaust legitimately!
I think I have mentioned this on here before Data (though it may have been elsewhere such is my penchant for a good moan) but if you do decide to take 'The Spaceship' to Jemca Edgware for servicing then make sure you leave your dash cam in active mode. The dash cam footage from 'The Sitting Duck' made for very interesting viewing I can tell you. The Jemca Edgware 'test drive' was more like a Formula One qualifying attempt. Road humps be buggered, my old Prius nearly took off over them. Their so called 5mph speed limit within their compound was summarily ignored. Of course 'The Sitting Duck' handled everything with aplomb as any Prius would. I used to get the old girl serviced there regularly, but switched to a different dealer after viewing their driving.
These immoral thieves are first and foremost, opportunistic criminal weasels who have a business model that involves the “Spotitt, Cutitt & Scarper” protocol. They want to be in and out so fast, nobody realises what’s going on till they’ve absconded with the stolen catalytic converters. Two minutes max......preferably 90 seconds. No more, no less. They don’t want to spend ages struggling with huge cutting tools underneath your Prius - risking some mob congregating and attacking them. These human sized filthy rodents DO try to avoid violence despite their threatening stance. They know that the moment they cross that invisible moral line and hurt anyone while stealing their wares, the gloves come off....both from the Police AND the populace in the street. So, as at this time, once they spot any security, they’ll walk away. Consider yourself safe iPad ? Pro
If they want it that desperately then nothing will stop them, but if they do manage to get the locks off and not damage the Catalytic Converters, then they deserve a medal!
True. Even as we strive to protect our property, the evil that certain subhuman creatures do knows no bounds. Anyone who wants to steal my Prius only has to waylay me with a baseball bat as I’m stepping out to work first thing in the morning. A couple of well placed whacks to my person (with malice aforethought) later, and IT’S got my key fob in its hands, and is soon swanning off down the road, leaving my battered carcass hidden behind the hedges of my abode. If they want it that badly, they’ll take it. Keep your fingers crossed that we do not descend any further into a dystopian nightmare that’ll make Gotham look like a children’s play park. iPad ? Pro
I’ve been talking to a garage on Facebook, he was saying that they’ve had loads of Prius in with cats missing, they’ve also had one where the lock was cut and the cat stolen, he didn’t say the make of the lock but out of all the cars targeted and they have repaired it’s only been the one car with the lock fitted.
A few Gen 2s appearing on Auto Trader and Gumtree being sold 'as seen' or spares/repairs with no catalytic converter. Mostly from the London area. It's a sad state of affairs that these wonderfully reliable cars are being butchered and then put out to pasture WELL before their time.
How sad. People running scared and selling off their Prii because they’ve become crime magnets. And to think the Prius used to be one of the most (wrongly) ridiculed vehicles on the inter webs. I guess the Mayor of London would gleefully like to to see the back of these reliable old workhorses too, as they bring in NO money for his latest ridiculous money grabbing ULEZ caper. And to add insult to his financial injury, owners of this model pay a measly road tax of only £10 a year. Even the cheapest motorcycles pay more. That must grind his gears, every time he sees one. If I didn’t know better, I’d say there was a conspiracy to rid the streets of the UK of these lovely Hybrid cars that truly save their owners a mint in already grossly inflated UK petrol costs and greedy overzealous road taxes too! iPhone 6s +
It's gutting isn't it? Really get on my nerves that the scum who do this crime are still getting away with it. I'm more annoyed by the garage telling me that one has been stolen with a lock on, however I don't know what lock it was, and it's only one car that has been targeted with a lock on. Still need to do more preventative measures to my car though, problem is, where will it end? Barbed wire around the whole exhaust? A live in Rottweiler in the car called Daisy?
The whole system is setup to fleece money from motorists in every which way possible, you only need to see things like parking tickets, bus lane tickets, box junction cameras, speeding cameras Hackney is by far the worst borough for this, they routinely set up penalty charge notice snares like box junctions and prohibited turn's
somewhat off topic but had my car broken into again today, opportunistic thieves looking for something valuable in the car but I leave nothing in there. In the few years ive had my car its been broken into 2 times in addition has had number plates stolen and catalytic converter stolen.
Sorry to hear that, crime seems to be on the rise everywhere. We are getting scum round here trying car doors to see if they are open, and stealing loose change and anything else they can get their hands on.
Sorry to hear your car got broken into..... I cannot believe that crime in this once great country of ours has been allowed to proliferate to such a massive degree. And all to what purpose? This isn’t accidental. This is not a mistake. To believe otherwise is to kowtow to the idea that we Brits are thick as the two proverbial planks. We’re smarter than that. This crime blitz situation we find ourselves in, has been more than likely deliberately engineered. Is this being done in order to create a huge crime related problem which can only be solved by privatising the Police? Methinks there’s PROFIT at the end of this situation for some faceless big fat business related corporations patiently waiting behind the scenes, and I’m not talking about the actual CAT burglars or house burglars, muggers, stabbers and other criminals. Are we to expect martial law (over London) as part of the crime solution one day? Is this an attempt to curtail the civil liberties of the innocent at the expense of the guilty? Or are we being browbeaten into accepting a degenerate society for the majority at the expense of the opulent few? Have I been watching too much Dystopian themed Black Mirror?!! The mind boggles. iPhone 6s +
Good faith, indeed. However, I'm guessing scraping / grinding down a VIN would be a one minute job for a crook. Even if this could render the cat a bit suspected-looking, the piece would still revert to being totally untraceable in the land of catalytic converters.
Hoping the dramatic drop in posts on this thread is a sign that these crimes are lessening. I highly doubt it though ... more's the flaming pity.
It doesn't seem to be sadly, I saw on Twitter yesterday that a car had its exhaust stolen from the same car park as where mine was targeted, it didn't say what make of car it was, but I think we can all guess.
Technically true. Think about it. So many older UK Gen 2 (and 1?) Prii have been scrapped by insurance refusing to fix them - or disillusioned owners getting rid of them as they’ve become crime magnets. The Grand Theft CAT gang have literally blitzed their way through this country over the space of one year and ripped off every Prius eligible for their unsavoury attention. Some Prii even repeatedly attacked. There won’t be much rich pickings left now. They’ve apparently sampled other Toyota Hybrids too but found them to be catalytic red herrings, so others are not being touched at this time. Don’t worry, they’ll be back for our KIDNEYS in the autumn.... iPhone 6s +
