Prius or Camry Hybrid?

    This is why the wagon and 6 speed manual version of the VW TDI was popular. About half the TDI sales were this configuration, and it was nice.

    There is an AWD for RAV4 Hybrid. Except they're completely out of stock here - orders surpassed supply within a couple of days of it being released.

    The Camry Wagon was a good seller - we had some at work, and family had one. But they dropped it for some strange reason. They also dropped the Corolla Wagon - but it's out in UK/Europe now, hopefully will come here.

    You're right - the Corolla Hatch is pretty hopeless - though it does come as a HYBRID here. Luggage space is much less than PRIUS (higher, but the footprint is tiny). Back seat is so limited that I'd be surprised if you could get a child-seat or booster in - and definitely not a baby capsule.

    The Prius c is dead.

    There is a Corolla Hatchback Hybrid - just not sold in North America.

    There is also a slick looking Corolla wagon hybrid (Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid) on both 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre hybrid versions. Much larger in passenger and cargo space.

    We have Prius’s and an ‘18 Camry LE Hybrid in the family. They all are wonderful vehicles. Surprisingly the ‘18+ Camrys get great fuel mileage. The LE’s are rated 50/53 mpg and the XLE’s and SE’s 44/47 mpg. My Sis’s LE gets around the 50 mpg mark pretty regular. It is a sizable car. I do like the versatility of the Prius Hatch and they have served me flawlessly for several hundred thousand miles. My sis wanted a 50 Mpg car so that ruled out the XLE and SE Camry Hybrids. For her coming from an older Camry the new LE Hybrid was just the perfect fit. To me it seems more like a Buick and a bit to large for me. Drive them both and see what’s more fitting to you. PS- it just sleighs me about people that think the Prius is too Spacey looking. I’ve enjoyed being just a little different and smarter than the average bear since my assimilation to Hybrid life in 2009. I wear the unique-ness proudly! Over 250,000 miles of Prius bliss. You all can have the cars that look like everyone else’s

    i'd love the corolla wagon hatchback. that would be a great vehicle for me and our family. I assume it's larger than the prius? has more cargo room?

    Well another idea for you to examine is the 2020 Corolla Hybrid. They’re out and the corolla is a nice size if the Camry is too big and you prefer sedans. Based on the TNGA platform- same as the 16+ Prius and 18+ Camry and now the 2020+ Corolla’s. ..... As far as other brand Hybrids- Toyota really has the best reliability and mileage bar none. They’ve got it figured out after making Hybrids in bulk starting with the 1997 Prius in Japan. That a lot of years and experience. I must admit that the new Honda Accord Hybrids are quite nice too as well as the new insight and plug in Clarity. Time will tell if their reliability stacks up. The older Civic and Accords had more battery issues.

    Depends on what you value.

    I mean if you want a potentially more comfortable driving feel, maybe quieter, then the Camry would be the choice.

    If you want the flagship, international standard as for what most people associate with a vehicle being a Hybrid, and you want a mixture of great Hybrid advantage AND solid utility? I'd pick Prius. * did I sound too bias there?

    But really, I can't answer that for anyone. It's up to you.
    When I wanted a Hybrid, it pretty much came down to it being a Prius. Even though in 2010, I looked at the "New" Insight. But I never really considered anything but a Prius with much seriousness in the Hybrid arena.

    Some people have claimed...no reason to disbelieve, a pretty acute problem with the ergonomics of the Prius seats. And that has become a real "back breaker" issue for them.
    It never was a problem for me, but if comparing a Camry Hybrid and a Prius Hybrid, you might want to sit in both for at least 45 minutes and see how the seats feel to you.

    Why would this matter? This is marketing fluff; people care about how the car drives, not if it's an "international standard."

    It doesn't matter if it doesn't matter to you. It wasn't the ONLY reason I sited.
    I do think the Prius is what most people think of when you say Hybrid, and that also translates into the reality of Prius, which is that a Prius is the flagship Hybrid of Toyota, even today.
    When I was considering, debating my Hybrid purchase, Prius being one of the longest established, mass produced and successful Hybrids in the automotive industry WAS an aspect I evaluated and put in the plus column.
    After decades, and several generational evolutions, Toyota still seems committed to Prius. Despite the recent "murdering off" of the Prius family.
    That's a plus, you might not get if you buy any other model.
    It was a reason why, at the time I never really seriously considered hybrid Ford Fusions or C-Max.
    I think if you choose a Prius, you have one of the most popular, mass produced hybrids, supported by a company that has decades invested into the models success.
    That's an international standard that personally I would give some weight.

    We just chose a standard 2019 Prius LE after looking at the RAV4 Hybrid and Accord Hybrid - all had their good points, I would have been happy with any of them (for different reasons) so my wife chose. She favored the Prius for its smaller size (easier to park in the city, and because she favored the dash controls, especially over the RAV4's, and much lower price. (We have a gas guzzling Outback for rocky Forest Service roads and winter trips to the Sierra, maybe 1000 mi/yr. If a one car family it would have been the RAV4.) We love it and now that we have it we particularly like the brightness and coverage of the low beams (much better than Camrys we've driven and a major reason for not considering them). At 600+ miles and two fill ups the mpg are 18-20% better than EPA figures. I was sort of hoping she'd pick the Accord - comfortable and livelier with good storage space - but have since learned from Honda that it can't do engine braking which we feel is necessary for long, fast down hill grades in the Sierra whereas Toyotas have "B-Mode" which spins up the engine and works well. Without engine braking, as soon as regenerative braking fills the hybrid battery, which can be quickly, one must rely on the mechanical brakes which doesn't seem wise.

    I typically see 30 mpg on our 2010 Outback on trips. Do you have an older model?
