Can you siphon gas out of a Prius Prime?

    This is not about gas in the Prius.
    It's about using the Prius Prime as a vehicle to transport
    lawnmower gas home without sticking a 5-gallon can in the back seat.

    I'm transitioning from a Pickup Truck to the Prius Prime.
    I'm trying to figure out how to do things that would have been simple
    in the pickup.

    One such thing is transporting lawnmower gas home from the pump.

    Siphoning would work fine, if it can be done.

    I'd just try it, but last time I tried it in the Nissan Pickup, the hose went
    in easy, but wouldn't come back out. It's like there was some kind
    of one-way apparatus hanging onto it. I did finally get it out with much difficulty.
    I'm afraid to even try it in the Prius.

    So, has anybody successfully siphoned gas out of a Prius Prime without mishap?

    It is harder to siphon gas out of cars because of the evaporitive emission controls in the filler tube, and because people didn't want it easy for thieves to steal their gas.

    I've always just put the can in the trunk or hatch. Any fumes quickly dissipate with the windows open, or you can seal the can in a trash bag.

    Just put the container in the back or on the front passenger floor if it will fit there. If you are concerned with leakage, either upgrade the can or put it on a foil roasting pan to catch any fuel that does manage to leak out.

    Like others chimed in, it would be much easier to take a stable Jerry can and put in the back or on the floor of the car than trying to siphon the gas out of the car. I've done it many times. Heck, I have hauled a push lawnmower on the back of my PRIME many times.

    Or corded electric mower, they're cheap and dependable. Unless you mow over the cord...

    I would just go for it with the gas can. Maybe put something like an open drain pan under it, and wedge it in with a few heavy rubber wheel chocks. Both items are good to have anyway.

    That's how I transport a 10 litre no-spill jug, though just for bringing bulk motor oil back from the dealership.
