That makes sense. An older lower capacity standard isn't the ideal.

Like John said, it makes sense.

What's funny is I'm building a ~4ft long 10 gauge 14-50P to 5-20R pigtail tonight for someone so they can use their Toyota OE EVSE at 240 volts.

Turns out that my breaker box is basically full and he wanted to add a sub-panel; it sounded expensive and so went to plan B and added a dedicated line (120v) for plugging in the Prime. If/when we get an EV, we will upgrade and seek a rebate from our energy provider. Still waiting on the 2020 Plus or the new base nameā€”it is on a boat in the Pacific. Thanks to everyone that added an idea or thought. Lots of smart folks in Prius Chat World!

That was my solution as well, for the short term. My house was wired with one 120 VAC to the garage front wall, on the same GFCI as three bathrooms and front and rear house outlets. Not so good when the air compressor kicks on when somebody is running a hair dryer, plus the one GFCI on the circuit is in the upstairs master bath - not so handy to reset.

So, I tapped into the overhead receptacle for the garage door opener, which also powers the overhead lights and lights in a family room (maybe an amp or so total load there). Put in a quad box there and surface mount conduit over to the garage door end of the garage, put a GFI in there and four outlets on that GFI. Now the car can charge without interfering with the garage power loads. Total cost for outlets, GFI, boxes, conduit and wires less than $75, no charge for my labor.

At some point I'll pull a 40A to the garage and put in faster charging, but for now the 120 works fine for my needs.

GIF protected? If so, they neglected to put the sticker on it.

Yes. Good observation regarding missing sticker.

587E0FE0-2971-45A3-9B2F-7BD26203C6A8.jpeg Mine has the sticker, although not shown in my previous post. That photo was taken during installation, before the sticker was added. This is the final install.
