Any luck slowing oil burning with a stop leak (lucas, blue devil, bars, etc.)

Round 2 @ 2590 miles I'm at least halfway between dots:

Here is the photo I took from round 1 @ 2500 miles which looks less than half:

Keep with it. So how much oil do you estimate the car burns now?

Last pic is precisely @ 3k miles (well like 3010). It's tricky to see and measure but my guess is 1.25 to 1.5 quarts per 3k miles?

ATF has not detergents to clean an engine...none of note anyways.
This has been known for a while now.
If anyone has any questions about oil, I have been going to bobistheoilguy for a long, long time and highly recommend. The site has oil engineers and it is based on science and not wives tales

Tag me if it works. For me noticed immediate improvement on 1st change. Then more improvement second change. And hopefully trend continues on 3rd change that I'm about to do tmrw.

They have a 6 pack on Amazon for $42 (7 each) otherwise it is $12 for 1 bottle

Well there will be no round 3 on my other 2 changes my 5 qt bottles have at least a 1/2 a quart in them.

And on this change even though They even asked how many quarts should we put in I said 4 he repeated 4.

The Tech putting the oil in looked like he was measuring real carefully and then ended up pouring the whole bottle in and I said didn't you just put all 5 qt in and he said the bottle said 4 qt although it doesn't it's a 5 qt jug.

So I'm a solid 1 quart over full... I'll prob have them drain a quart out if I pass by an oil change shop

Ok game on drove 20 miles as-is. Then went to valvoline and they did a "10-coumt" drain. Said I was 1 to 1.5 over. It was a level I was uncomfortable with. Not quite a pinky finger past full but quite a bit over.

Gave me the idea of buying a 1 quart bottle and 3 five-gallon bottles.

Then take a 4th "1 gallon bottle" that is empty. Dump the 1 quart in. Then take each gallon jug and fill the quart from each jug leaving me with four 4-quart jugs. Add the shot of moly to each as the oil shop guys arent that bright sometimes.

Doing DIY oil changes, I keep a bunch of old bottles around, to help juggle storage. But I went to bulk oil a few years back, and for any oil change, the whole amount gets measured out in a graduated pitcher. Got tired of fussing around with makeshift bottles and smaller graduates.

This one's worked out very well, no leaks, very solid:

Travis is the guy I'm going to relate to because at 58 years old I can remember all these types of fixes from childhood. As for the experiment going on, (I'm definitely a scientist at heart) I think it is admirable and value-added but I want to go straight for the old school way.

Here's my concern, no one's talking about valve guide wear. If it's wear of the valve guides then going thicker is the only method for reducing oil use. I don't think cleaning is what's going on but I do think the ATF is acting more like a hydraulic fluid and maybe helping coat the valve guides better, and that's preventing oil blow by.

How difficult is pulling the head off and replacing with one from a junk yard that you get rebuilt before the swap.

If someone goes first and then sends me they're removed head we could start let's read through the mail system Prius heads

If it’s still overfilled get it fixed NOW.... Bad things happen when the oil is overfilled. Idiot that overfilled it should have fixed it right then.

In 25 years of fixing cars, and especially the past 10 I don't think the Toyota's have any valve guide problems. It's all synthetic oil, extended drain intervals, less tension on the rings in the name of "low friction" which increases the amount of combustion gas residue that ends up in oil and depletes the detergent package.

More spent gas nastiness getting into the oil that can no longer carry it in suspension.

I'm just a stupid mechanic but from what I've seen that's why this happens on Hondas, Toyotas, GM, etc.....

My brother thinks premium oil would cause it to burn more oil. He thinks cheap oil would work better.

Anyways, try reading it a 5th time I'm not a mechanic and have no clue what Travis is talking about:

"Toyota's do not have any valve guide problems. IT'S ALL SYNTHETIC OIL, extended drain intervals(...)which increases the amount of combustion gas residue that ends up in oil and depletes the detergent package."
