12v battery warranty for replacement

    We have a 2014 Prius and it won't start this morning. Vehicle was purchased from the original owner in 2018.

    Tested with multimeter and 12v battery showed 11.8v, tried to trickle charger for 30 min and it didn't help but was able to jump start the vehicle.

    The TrueStart battery has 84 month warranty so figured Toyota dealer would pro-rate the cost.

    Apparently, the original 12v battery was replaced in November 2015 under warranty so the replaced battery has no warranty and dealer is suggesting I need to buy a brand new one.

    Does Toyota not offer warranty on a battery that was replaced under warranty??

    Edit: Dealer wanted the original invoice to provide a pro-rated quote then after invoice was provided they said no, you need a new one

    that sounds correct, but i have not seen the warranty detail. usually when something is replaced under warranty, it is no longer under warranty. or if it is, it is short like 90 days, or a year at most.

    The new car warranty includes 36 months bumper to bumper coverage, which includes the 12V battery. Hence that warranty would have expired in ~ 2017, three years after the first sale.

    Trickle charge from 11.8v to 12.7v will take longer than 30min.

    The prorated quote will be the discount amount subtracted from new battery original cost which you will buy from them since the replaced battery has no warrantee.

    yes, it was odd that replaced battery didn't have any warranty - not even 30 days as per the dealer.

    My thinking was unless the replaced battery was a re manufactured one(if that's possible) and not a NEW one, the no warranty made sense.

    if you have your hybrid battery replaced after one year, does the new one get 7 more years or 3?
