Use at your own risk. I forgot to mention some of the steps in installing these $40.00 ebay fog lights. There is also a danger of wiring these things up and you could damage your entire electrical system if you dont' know what your doing. Modify as you wish. I couldn't find anything on google or priuschat installing these things before I started
I'm in need of a few clarifications. Where do I tap power under the hood? Do I tie into the jump terminal? Where about is the firewall grommet? It's tricky to see up there. Same with fuse access. Best I can tell, under the hood, there's power and ground plus the one wire that connects to the interior. Inside, there's the switch harness. Again power (brown wire on the ecu), ground and the connection wire. iPhone ?
Final step.... post your used OEM non fog light grille inserts on eBay for $15 each and get most of your money back. 04 09 Toyota Prius Front Bumper Insert w O Fog Lts LH | eBay $54 for aftermarket.
I wanted to add some notes as I just installed this and did it a bit differently than the guide. First, I'd recommend watching this: That video explains which wires connect to what (confusing! The separate red wire is used as an extension for connecting the two yellow wires together! Don't know why they don't just make this wire yellow). I also spent a long time trying to figure out which plug is supposed to go to which (driver's or passenger's) side lamp. Eventually I figured out that there's not a good solution, and had to just choose one. The easiest point to tap a +12V is the jump point (on the driver's side), and the yellow wire from the switch will also be coming into the hood on the driver's side. However the yellow and red wires are on opposite ends of the kit. I installed mine such that the yellow wire on the kit comes from the passenger's side, and the red wire comes from the driver's side. The red extension they provide was long enough to reach all of the way to the switch. Also, I couldn't get a coat hanger through the firewall grommet in step 11. I was getting really nervous about messing up the car's wiring, so I instead wired through the driver's side quarter panel, and then through the grommet for the wires to connect to the electronics in the driver's door. You can see how I used a coat hanger in the steps below to get it through. Also be aware that the wires you need to access in step 15 are underneath the driver's dash, you can see it in the image above with the pink and blue relays. There are two brown wires - you want the one on the right in the 29 pin connector.
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve my mounting problem for the fog light? I can't get the black plastic in the Winjet kit to stay attached to my grill and mount flush to make it look like one continuous piece. I think my grill is warped from years of being in my bumper in the sun. If I push the two parts together, it takes too much force, and they just come apart again. Can I use a heat gun or is there a better way? See the picture below.
I cant figure out which brown wire to tap into. The one brown wire i tapped into kept my fog light switch illuminated. I want it to be connected to something like DRL or headlight switch so the fog switch only comes on when headlights are on.
You know there's already a usable fog light relay and fuse position built into your instrument panel junction box, right? If you get the stalk with the fog switch, you can hear the relay click down there when you turn it on. The power comes out on pin 8 here: (If I remember right, it comes out on both 7 and 8 for extra current capacity; I was adding LEDs that only draw about 3 amps, so I just connected to 8). Pull the wire, add a fuse in the position labeled for fogs and you're good to go.
Hi ChapmanF I found out Prius gen 2 have a original fog wire set and wired relay box already. That relay have 4 color wire, brown , green , Apple green and yellow. Green is 12v, brown is ground, Apple green connect to fog switch. So I think yellow is connect into the car. But I can’t find that wire position. I can’t find your photo on pin 8. Do you mind to give me more detail. And I hope the panel have the fog logo. How can I do it?
Look for the box with pink and blue relays. It's on this box. You can see the bottom part of the box in the photos above. There are two brown wires, and IIRC it's the one more to the right.
sorry to bring this thread up, i dont know if its oky to make new post or post on an existing thread. so gen2 have build in foglight wire already?
