Besides its nickel & dime, fit & finish issues - we spent many a day traveling back & forth - to & from going home & back to the service center to have 'em take care of the X. When the ½ shafts began to vibrate upon heavy acceleration? When the headliner started to come loose? When a yellow border started to form all the way around the display? When we noticed that the windshield caused a blurry double vision at night looking at oncoming cars, street lights, porch lights? ..... , etc? None of these things, (relatively common problems for this vehicle) , can be detected by the car. When you complain about it, the SC acknowledges the issues, but we were usually told, "sorry, we don't have a fix for that yet. you'll have to wait.". You shouldn't have to wait for such things to be addressed - for such a pricey ride. So we unloaded it - got out of the lease extra early. I pity the poor slob who took it over. And that will be one more person who ends up (sadly) feeling the same way we do. Sorry Tesla, now you will have to wait. And when those kinds of things are way less common? Yea - then will we be back.
ps - it took over for months for the headliner to be taken care of and the other previously mentioned goodies? Never. Still - with their quick charging infrastructure? They're the only game in town.
Now - when our air suspension solenoid block took a dump, & it timed out trying to achieve the pre-programmed setting, yeah, it could have diagnosed that (on our S) .... but whoop-dee-doo, you have a yellow triangle, and a timeout warning on the dash, & great ... it could have ordered parts for us, so you don't have to get stuck in a massive phone queue with other people, but it still took over 3 weeks for the part to come in. That was maybe 3 years ago (2016}. When we called the service center, they were able to confirm that failure over the air, so yeah, stuff like that .... good - you won't have to make a phone call. Yay.

Shorting a stock has nothing to do with how many light years ahead the company is in anything and everything to do with how much money one can make shorting the company's stock. As long as money can be made shorting a stock, that stock will be shorted. Once a stock stops making money for the short sellers it will very quickly stop being sold short.

I hope that answers your question.

You short a stock that you don't think is going to appreciate.

Stocks appreciate when investors foresee either growth in sales that can at some future point be monetized or continuing growth of profits.

Are newly announced features going to be enough to revive sales? Are they selling the right mix to achieve profits? Are there global threats to their supply chain? Will they become a pawn in the trade wars? How much will tariffs on critical parts hurt their profits?

So there are differences of opinion that are valid. Put your money down based on your opinions. Good luck.

How do we know that Tesla (the actual car) will not preorder parts for the hell of it? Sounds like a scam to me.

I sympathize as the infantile problems of early production models can be brutal. The Model X seems a little complex.

The other thing folks like Cramer consider Tesla a speculative stock (last I knew). So some people are speculating great upside and some people are specuating great downside. But a speculative stock is one nobody can really say the direction, so it's something you invest in as a wildcard.
