Satellite radio firmware upgrade?

I let the subscription slide 7 years ago on my 2012 after the 3 free months. This month Sirius offered me two more free months, and since no cc was required I took it. A lot more channels out there now. In fact more than twice as many. Unfortunately, the channel numbers tunable in my 2012 top out at #235, and there are many in the new lineup in the higher 200s, 400s, and 700s.

After looking at the Sirius site I could not find any firmware updates for car manufacturer installations. Anyone else been through this and found a solution? Is it a Toyota issue or am I looking at an aftermarket head unit to get the additional channel numbers?

Thanks. I already have that update. It didn't include any updates for the Sat radio unfortunately. But I have since spoken to Siruis, and all the new channels over #235 have to be accessed through a streaming account, on your phone. Supposedly, this can then be played through a car entertainment system with Bluetooth. I haven't tested it yet as I am pondering whether I want the extra complication or distraction while driving. Will probably pass.

 

They do have different plans now and one allows access mainly to the lower number stations. But you are right. With any of their packages, especially the the full $20.99 deal, you could end up paying for a lot of channels you never listen to. I cancelled cable TV 10 years ago for similar reasons, so I am not inclined to get back into that same situation on radio.

I listen to a combination of talk radio on an AM station and several hundred of my personal mp3s on a USB drive. I like the ability to switch back at forth at any moment with just a voice command. Having to pick up my phone to get to a satelite station is a distraction I don't need.
