Hey folks! Have a 2008 Prius w/ 175k on it. All original. This morning, the red triangle came on, as well as the (!) and VSC errors. The engine feels a little labored and doesn't sound the way it usually does. Also, for the first time ever, I heard air rushing out of the vent on the passenger side in the rear. A quick OBD Code read showed P0080. Any thoughts? I'm bringing it in tomorrow to the mechanic, but want to be prepared in case they tell me I need a new $5k part if I don't. Thanks
A couple things. First, was it a quick OBDII read with a reader that reads Prius codes? If not, it's quite likely not the right code. Second, you scared the crappola out of me!! Prius Primes shouldn't be throwing codes yet. Most of us with Primes have Gen 2 experience, but I'd suggest clicking the "report" link under your signature line and asking a moderator to move this to the Gen 2 forums so the Gen 2 wizards are more likely to see it and be able to advise. Be sure to take it to a hybrid mechanic. He should give you the correct codes and diagnosis. Let us know what happens. And good luck!
probably you're hybrid battery. check in with @2k1Toaster , he's in your neighborhood and has a new aftermarket replacement for $1,600. plus labor.
I accidentally cleared the reader code (squeezed the reset button while climbing out from the dash), does the onboard computer save code history?
P0A80 + being able to hear the HV battery fan = near certainty that your HV Battery is dying. Replace ASAP. 2k1Toaster's cylindrical cells are a good option, if you can't get a local dealer to sell to you for under $1800. You will have to make phone calls to see if a local dealer will sell to you and match another dealer's lower price for the HV Battery. No dealer will ship the HV battery b/c the cost is exorbitant. See post#11 to get an idea of OEM HV Battery pricing; granted this was in Nov 2018. Indianapolis area battery repair? | PriusChat
No worries. It happens a lot. Just want to make sure you get this figured out asap. Lots of codes get kept in history. If the technician is using Techstream, it'll find them.
