does anyone UBER with Prius Prime?

    After days of research and finding the best price ($25,500 Out the door) for a premium I find that on the Uber website the car must seat up to 4. Lyft seems not to care as long as it has 4 doors. I have a job that gets me off work at 3:30 - 4:30 pm and have tons of time on my hands and decided I wanted to Uber. I was super disappointed because I love the way the prime looks. Does anyone know for sure if I can Uber or not with a Prime? I have to wait until Monday to call.

    I dont have the answer to your question, but the prius seems like the perfect car (or the kia niro) to be used as a uber/lyft car!!

    The Prime & first generation Volt will not work with the current up to four passenger Uber X classification due to the three passenger capacity.
    I find I have three passengers in back and one in the front of my first generation plug in Prius 25% of the time (I often Uber drive late Saturday evenings)
    I even eliminated the 2nd generation Volt from future consideration after I sat in the rear passenger seat middle position (totally unacceptable for an adult)
    The best current bang for the buck Uber plug in is probably the Hyundai Ionic or the Honda Clarity if you needed a bigger trunk.

    For Uber which you easily drive 200+ miles a day, a plugin does not make a lot of sense at least to me. Maybe a Camry hybrid LE makes more sense unless Clarity final price after all incentives is fairly close to a Camry Hybrid.

    If you want to rideshare, get a used Prius V.

    Both Uber and Lyft require you to carry driver plus 4 passengers -- two couples. Volts don't qualify. Nor do Primes.

    The Prius V is perfect because it has more legroom in the back than most other vehicles. I picked up four football players one time who'd just finished a day of golfing. All four of their golf bags fit in the back with room to spare, and they didn't obscure my rear view at all. These guys were all huge! And they all remarked at how roomy it was. They said the last car they were in was a Prius C and when they saw I had a Prius they almost cancelled because it was just too cramped for them. But the lack of available cars in the area at that time made them decide to accept me. They were glad they did. Sadly, they didn't tip me in spite of how happy they were with the ride.

    I drove for Uber and Lyft for about 10 months, until I couldn't make much of a profit any more. I wouldn't recommend it today, the profit margins are just too low. They also front-load their commissions, charging more for the first 25 rides or so. Most people who sign up don't make it that far before realizing they're not making any money.

    A report came out of MIT recently that was the most accurate representation of costs vs. profits that I've seen, and it comported to my own figures very closely. Of course, Uber and Lyft both made a huge stink and forced the people who wrote it to retract it and agree to re-do parts so it doesn't look so bad for drivers.

    Here's the bottom-line: if you track your actual costs and revenues closely, and work them out on a per-mile basis, you'll be earning about 62 cents per mile driven, from the time you leave your house to the time you get back home. That's here in Phoenix. Other cities will be a little more or less. That's including gas, car washes, oil changes, but not tires, repairs, or insurance.

    The federal statutory mileage deduction is around 55 cents per mile, meaning most of your "profit" is going to be the difference between your gross (~$0.62/mi) and that amount ($0.55/mi) less whatever actual costs you incur that aren't already accounted for.

    In other words, your profit is mostly coming from the difference between your actual per-mile costs and what you get to deduct on your taxes.

    This is not a sustainable business model!

    When i started driving for Uber and Lyft, I was making $0.95/mi. Nine months later, after three fare reductions, I was making $0.62/mi. So much for their silly stories about how drivers will make more in the long-run by getting more rides. That's BS. The MIT report was spot-on.

    I switched to Amazon Prime NOW! and my earnings went back up to $0.93/mi, and I didn't have to deal with people, just packages. Frankly, I'll take the packages any day!

    I don't do it anymore, but I used my Prius V, which is also perfect for that purpose as well.

    (BTW, I traded the V in on the Prime.)

    the representative for uber and lyft don't know exactly if the prime 2018 with 4 seats is acceptable or not I gonna try when get my new plates because whitout the plates is impossible

    I would advise against it. Even if they approve you to be an uber/lyft driver, imagine how annoying and inconvenient it'll be when you show up to your customer only to have to tell them that they have to call a different uber because you can't fit their whole party in their car. It wouldn't be an issue if you had to claim how many people are in your party at the time you request a ride, but that's just not the case.

    Like somebody else mentioned, if you do decide on the prime, try amazon or a similar service if you're looking to supplement your income

    This message is not for the OP since he already bought a Prime. I would not recommend buying a brand new car for ridesharing. It's going to lose its value fast. Find a reliable and fuel efficient 4+ year old used car.

    I do uber eats delivery and average about 100 miles per day at 100 mpg I charge my car at McDonald's because McDonald's let's me charge my car for free

    Uber wont accept the prius prime, but you can deliver for uber eats, which I do an make decent money. Albeit I am running up the miles on my prime, and running down the resale, I not have extra money to spend, while maintaining a higher than required monthly payment, running down my loan balance faster than projected.

    so primeguy, i'm just throwin some numbers out there...
    you drove 7 days that week, about 39 hours total and made 563
    so thats approx 14.44 per hour, and approx another full time job.
    i see 63 trips, do you know the total mileage for that week, and the mpg for the week?
    better to skip the slow days and just drive the more lucrative shifts ?
    all this is reported income right ? so you will pay tax on it?

    No, I don't know the total mileage but I average about 400 miles per tank using about 8 gallons, I try to charge my car whenever there's a charging station nearby but that's two hours not delivering for uber eats, I pay taxes when I file my income tax return, since I started in December, I don't have any income tax for last year

    The Prime is one of the cheapest new cars to drive. By my calculations it's around $0.28 a mile including insurance, depreciation, maintenance (tires, etc), fuel (electric at around $0.03 a mile), etc. The same calculation for an old used sedan is around $0.24 a mile (gas around $0.10, higher maintenance, similar insurance), so I'd rather have the newer car for a few cents more.

    As long as you're making enough to cover the cost per mile and make it worth your time, it doesn't matter that the car depreciates faster. That's built into the cost per mile. So if you're making $0.62 a mile, minus cost to drive, you keep $0.34 a mile (pre-tax). If you drive an average of 30 miles every hour of work (average including waiting time), you're making $0.34*30 = $10.20 an hour pre-tax. But if you have a lot of waiting time it could easily be less than 30 miles per hour.
