I have a 2006 Gen II Prius with 105K miles. My touchscreen stopped working a couple of months ago, and I've managed to live without it. But now sometimes when I turn sharply (mostly right but sometimes left) the word PROBLEM appears on the screen, all the dashboard lights come on, the dome light comes on -- all for just a second or two-- then things go back to normal. Are the two related? Does somebody have any ideas?

if your oil is low it might set a warning light. I'd check that first.

Low oil could be a problem, but the dome light coming on? Very strange. It sounds to me like there is a rub or intermittent in the wiring harness. Was there ever any accident or repairs done to the car?

Low oil is the general cause...

However, with the dome light turning on, that sounds like a door is coming open. If the car is in drive and moving and a door opens, you get that warning. A sharp turn could possible unseat a door. It could be as simple that over 10 years one of the door switches has become slightly misaligned or something. That's what I would check...

The oil is low. Chances are the gaskets are leaking oil. More often than not the gaskets are made of paper. It's cheaper and easier to keep feeding your car extra oil than it is to have the engine rebuilt. Keep an eye on your levels so you don't completely blow your engine.

    Two things:
    1) 5 year old thread
    2) gen2’s have a problem with the oil ring that causes them to burn oil. It’s generally not gaskets.
