2010 Prius. 139K miles and still has original 12v battery. I’m inclined to just order another one like it at the dealer. Some of you guys opted for an Optima (did I just make a joke?). Your opinions? The only repair this car has ever needed is to replace one low beam headlight bulb socket. Everything works like new still. What proactive maintenance should I be anticipating? Thanks!

Sparks plugs, if they haven't been changed. EGR cleanout, Transmission fluid, and coolant both in the radiator and the hybrid converter. If you still have energy after all that, check the cooling fan for the hybrid battery and vacuum out any crud in the fan blades.

My OEM battery lasted until 165K and a little over 8 years. I used a Optimate 5 charger/conditioner those last 4 years. I replaced it with a Toyota Truestart for around $230.

I just changed my original 12v in my 2012 with 140K.

After pulling the battery out I tested it and returned 12.4v, 88% state of health, 287 CCA.

New battery is Duralast Platinum 46B24R-AGM for 194.99.

I finally had to replace the original battery a couple of weeks ago. Away for 5 days, and car wouldn’t start. Battery at 9 volts. Put it on a charter for a few minutes and the car started right up. After running for a few minutes, it read 12.4v. Decided it was time, and the local dealer had it in stock, so I picked one up. Went with the original Yausa battery from the dealer. While at the stealership, I checked with the service guy on the labor to install. They only wanted around $125 to put it in. Jesus, $125. Took me 15-20 minutes. I want a full time job making $500/hour installing Prius batteries! Maybe this one will last me another 9 years.

Voltage could have gone up had you kept engine running longer with the HV bat charging which would extend the time to replace and save the a battery’s life- quote the green earth friendly folks.
