EV Energy Consumption (EPA) Compared By Vehicle/Trim

    OK, this means right now the best in the league is getting 4.44 miles/kWh in city. Knowing my PRIME gets around 4.5 miles/kWh in city and still cost more to drive EV than using gas with HV for my situation. I realize there will be no cost saving for me to switch to BEV until I install PV on my roof.

    I suspect that converting from MPGe introduces some error.

    Are you referring to my number from PRIME? If so, my 4.5 miles/kWh is average of 20 months of my actual EV driving. I think PRIME EPA rated MPGe is 133, which is 3.946 miles/kWh assuming 33.7 kilowatt-hours of electricity is the equivalent to one gallon of gas. EPA rated number would put PRIME at 253.4 Wh/mile, so that would be on par with M3.

    No, it wouldn't as the conversion is a simple mathematical function.
    In this case though, since only BEVs are being compared, there is little use for converting to MPGe.

    Those are terrible!! Over the past four days, I've been averaging just under 6 miles/kWh. If I'm not mistaken, that 167 Wh/mile.

    I think my worst day yet was 5.2 mile/kWh. That would be just over 192 Wh/mile.

    I guess they have heavy feet. :D

    To be fair EPA rated number for PRIME at 253.4 Wh/mile maybe easily exceeded in temperate regions where @jerrymildred is, but it would be difficult for me to pull off such feat in a long term. I can get similar numbers as Jerry's during brief summertime, but during winter, the battery efficiency plummets. Still, I am able to get year around average better than EPA rating, so I am sure many BEV drivers can also achieve better real-world efficiency than advertised. Of course, there probably are an equal number of people who are getting less than what's advertised.

    I stand corrected. I went back and found a 4.9. :oops:

    It would take some effort to get that figure for me with much accuracy. I'd have to run the EV range out and reset my meter that I charge from. But it takes roughly 6 kWh to charge the battery. If that gets me 34-36 miles (about my average), that's just under 6 miles per kWh. A more accurate measurement might be a little over 6 kWh, but at least it's in the ballpark. So, if I increase the power from the wall estimate by 10%, it's still under 184 Wh/mile.

    Next time I run the battery clear down and charge at home, I'll reset my electric meter first to get a more exact number.

    I'd love it if there was a Toyota BEV, really I would:)

    I did exactly that for three months. Daily charge at wall recorded and daily EV range recorded, and yes you are correct, the number the car display is about 10-15% better. With Prime, recording actual EV range is very cumbersome, especially if you do not run EV range to zero every day.

    Hard to compare our short range PiP EV performance to full BEV's. Driven in different circumstances at different speeds.

    Prime PHEV is impressive, but if you use any ICE, isn't the kWhr/mile going to look "artificially" better than BEV becuase you are getting some electric generated by the ICE?

    The numbers I and Jerry posted here are from EV only drives without any ICE use. Yeah, it has only 25-35 miles of ranges, but for that distance, it runs very efficiently. Still for me, it is not efficient enough. HV drive using gas is more economical for my situation.

    This is not the case. HV drive used gasoline, which is far less efficient, isn't it?
