So today, after changing my oil on my 2012 Prius Four, I accidentally left the oil cap off but immediately noticed the noise and checked it. BUT the engine sounded really mean sounding when the oil cap was off which I would like to do but not worth the risk. Is there a hack to modify this without letting dirt and other debris into the engine oil? Or do you have to keep the cap on to keep the pressure in the engine or something? I was thinking a real tight piece of mesh with a sealant around the edges that would still stick even if I took it off to change the oil.
Forget it. The EGR system won't function right with no oil cap. AND.....when running fast, oil will probably splash out too. If you want to sound "mean", stick your head out the window and growl !! Or put a playing card in your wheel spokes.
You just want more fodder for your list of infamous quotes, right? One of the "fun" by-products of leaving off the oil filler cap, is aroma de motor oil, in the cabin: the cabin air intake is nearby.
You didn't lose the cap? That was my trick (previous car). Bought a new one, then eventually found the old one, lodged in a corner.
