How many new gas street cars and light trucks of all makes and models are available to be purchased in the US?
How many public gas stations are there in the US?
How many new BEV (only) street cars and light trucks of all makes and models are available to be purchased in the US?
How many public charging stations are there in the US?

I have given Tesla full credit for developing viable product solutions and given full kudos to early adapters...but you guys have to be patient. Putting the cart before the horse...and...the how to feed the horse problems have to solved first. It will take time...assuming this is the end all solution. Beside, how can anyone place judgement on others because the type and use of legally available vehicle they choose or want is different than what some else's legal choice or want is?

This be said of all flammable liquids, and even gases. The compound has to properly mixed with an oxygen source to ignite. Unless we are talking temperatures in the autoignition range.

Gasoline though is a volatile liquid that readily mixes with air. Its flashpoint is below -40 degrees. The vapors above the liquid can be ignited, and will continue to burn on their own at temperatures that low. Diesels and kerosenes need to be at the 100F range to pull that off. Plenty of stupid people videos in which gasoline vapors extend far beyond where the liquid was dumped and ignite.
    Flash point - Wikipedia

Lit cigarettes are generally a poor ignition source; no exposed spark. Spark plug, residential light switch, or static discharge from sitting in the car are much better.

I don't believe anyone is saying BEVs are ready today, for every user, in every type of vehicle format.
People are simply responding to the incorrect information.

never heard of it ..... read some recipes - one w/ rasberry jello made with tequila .... gotta try that!
both of our 2 current cars burn gas on occasion. Confusing a gentle correction with something else perhaps?
except for the administer of voluminous shame - el crucero. Maybe that's who Lee Jay was thinking of.

After getting our Standard Range Plus Model 3 (SRM3+), I took him off my "ignore user" list. I was afraid he might talk me out of getting the car.

I'll address specific SRM3+ questions asked in PriusChat but I won't volunteer any lesson's learned because I don't need additional snark ... I am already married. For now, I post my SRM3+ experiments here:

There is a fine line between "sharing" and becoming a "proselytizing pest." After all, this is PriusChat not YouAreAllWrongChat. If we need some of those, we can always poke a TDI advocate. <grins>

    i appologize - a 1% er .... also known as an outlier - aberration - exception to the majority - atypical - deviation - not fitting w/in the majority. Consider the chart;
Daily commute ranges. Most do under 55 miles. So those who 'claim' they drive so many hundred & hundreds & hundres of miles so regular? There it is. A one per-center. Nothing to be ashamed of - but the 99% don't necessarily relate .... & chances are fair driving it home ad nausum will become as aversive as the el crucero types on the other way far extreme end of the spectrum.

Small, homogeneous (population wise) society. Does not scale up to large diverse ones, unfortunately.

A stepping stone to get there. The first Smartphones (Blackberries) primarily appealed to business people at the start.

Yes, but Japan is very much mired in ICE industry (they are what you may call "The Best" in the world at it right now) and the electricity is not exactly a simple matter there, especially after Fukushima. Norway has no auto industry to be weighed down by and is extremely wealthy based on, paradoxically, oil exports. But like many oil producing countries they are on a forefront of alternative energy.
