or do all tints look the same/different depending on the lighting and angle of photograph...
many people say huper optik is more reflective, but i dont see enough tinted cars and i never get to see side by side. huper shop only has huper cars in the parking lot. llumar only has llumar, etc.

I think the angle of the lighting and the color of the vehicle can affect how you view the tints. My Huper Optik looks pretty much like any other tints from the outside. I can't say I've noticed any special reflective qualities or any other attributes. It just looks like.. tint (from the outside).

My Prime is Blizzard Pearl and I've had Huper Optik Autobahn ceramic tints installed on both a 17 and 18 Prime.

Happy with my tinting! :) Still having issues with light refraction along the defroster lines (back glass) but should cure in the next few weeks as the warmer weather kicks back in!

I used Global Window Film (Ceramic). 33% front, 4% back and rear window. Max allowed by Nevada Law for front windows is 35% light transmission with a tolerance of 7%. No issues seeing out or driving safely at night. Rear window helps with bright upcoming headlights. Any rear passenger window issues mitigated by Prime's Blind Spot Monitoring system. I also own a '67 Camaro. Would not be comfortable with 4% on that car. 53803716_10217911723800593_3825545439474614272_o.jpg

I've never given tinting serious thought. But with the shiny surfaces inside this Prime, I'm thinking about it. Was yours a pro job or DIY? From what little I've read, ceramic sounds like good stuff, but I have no clue where to get it or what it costs. At any rate, I won't be able to get it done till probably July or August.

I don't like night driving with our front windows dark while making turns. They are whatever is legal in Indian, I think a 30% tint.
I have had other tinted windows and don't remember it being a problem.

I'm concerned about that, too. If I do tint them, it'll be nowhere near the max, but hopefully enough to reduce the A/C load and the glare on the big screen.

I saw a little display box at the tinting place I went to for my Prime. It was basically four glass plates held together in a square with a light bulb (looked like a heat lamp from a food display) in the middle.

There were four different pieces of tint on each side of the box. One was a regular 20-35% dark tint, non-ceramic. You could easily feel the full heat of the bulb through that tint.

The next one was a limousine tint (5%). It was so dark it looked almost completely opaque. You would assume it would block out a significant amount of heat, but when you put your hand near it, you could feel the heat from the bulb cutting right through.

The other two were ceramic tints that were way lighter (like 20% and 50%) I think. The heat transmitted through those tints was significantly less than the previous two samples. More than 50% less? It felt like it.

Moral of the story - dark tint does not necessarily equal a cooler interior. It's the additional treatments on the tint that will make the difference (i.e. ceramic, etc.).

Also - no way you get a ceramic tint job for less than $400-500. A <$300 tint job is probably regular tint or a rip-off if they said it's ceramic. YMMV.

My entire tint job would have been closer to $500 if I hadn't done my front windshield. That made a huge difference on the total heat coming into the vehicle.

I've mentioned this before, but when I was driving my "old" 17 Prime on that ill fated trip up to San Jose last year, the outside temperatures varied from about 112 to a cool and brisk 105 all the way up. I was able to keep my Prime on Eco-Mode all the way up and the auto fan speed never went above the 2nd lowest speed setting. Internal temperature setting was 76 if I remember correctly.

i had an 08 prius. the heat coming off the front dash was unbearable. there was no way to cool it off , even when driving with the air on the dash would stay hot if it was in the sun and radiate heat like a broiler. thats why i am tinting the PRIME right away. black dash will be as hot as the 08 was otherwise.
ceramic is the way to go for the prius, alot of glass letting in alot of light/heat. some metallics can reject as much energy as the ceramics, but the ceramics can do it at lighter shades, which is important if you wan to do the windshield. prices are a bit ridiculous, but i think its something that will look good and yield noticeable improvement to the inside temps. it may add a bit of value to the car down the road??
but i plan to keep the PRIME for ten years or more, so the main benefit is for me. not roasting is worth it. i am going to stop by a few shops this week and see more tints in person. get more firm pricing.

For any type of good ceramic, that's almost like saying it was free.

    Post some Pics...
