Exactly. Maybe next time I need to replace the wipers on my car I should go around the local vicinity with my tape measure measuring wipers on cars until I find a pair that matches mine - and then just take them. Maybe a wing mirror that is in pristine condition, or some trim. It beggars belief.
Does anyone know an mp or councillor with a Prius if that one gets stolen then there will be uproar for sure
Our Mayor uses a Prius for official Business, however it is a 7 seater one. I've had an update regarding mine, Catloc is being fitted by the main dealer when the car is returned to me, the dealer said that with the new cats that Toyota are having manufactured, there isn't as much of the precious metals that there was in the old ones, however this won't stop the thieving barstewards. Possibly getting the car returned next week, will wait and see.
Indeed! However, go help yourself to bits of Aston Martins, Bentleys, Daimler’s, Rolls Royce ‘Landaus’ & Limousines, Range Rover Overfinches, Maybachs....and see how many hours or minutes you will remain FREE...!!! Do those vehicles and expect to be clubbed senseless with truncheons then enthusiastically tasered for good measure, when they come for you! Our Metropolitan Constabulary will spring into action with unbridled alacrity and you’ll be apprehended so fast......you’ll still be under the vehicle when they arrive. iPad ? Pro
I forgot MPs and councillors can claim off tax payers anyway so they won’t be out of pocket necessarily it’s those tax payers who would be compensating them for the loss ☹️
Having recently become a fully paid up member of the ‘Some a**hole stole my gen 2's cat Club’ I thought I should add my voice to the many already on here. Sadly the problem isn’t going away anytime soon. Around 5th March I discovered my trusty old 2007 Gen 2 Prius had been violated and robbed of her precious cargo, parked right outside my house on a quiet back street in Charlton, SE London. The first I knew of it was that dreadful sound, that seemed so out of place in the cabin of this lovely, peaceful car. Blissfully unaware of the crime wave sweeping the capital I naively presumed it was a broken exhaust. As my poor, mutilated Prius stuttered and banged its way into the nearest garage, I felt a sickness in the pit of my stomach. It could have been the shaming glances the Prius and I were drawing, or perhaps the toxic fumes seeping through the air vents, but most likely it was the sheer unfamiliarity of driving my gen 2 into a garage at all. This car has virtually never broken down on me before. The guys in the garage already knew the problem without looking. Mine was the 3rd one this week, and it was only Tuesday.I called the insurance company and it’s now been towed to an approved garage to be assessed. I reported it to the police who were sympathetic but said there was nothing to be done about it ‘yada yada’. I understand the frustration over the lack of action, but at the end of the day its our retched governments fault. This is what you get after 5 years of austerity and massive cuts to community services. But what would I know? According to our beloved Prime Minister - “There is no direct correlation between crimes and police numbers” errr...Actually I’m pretty sure there is Theresa. After a brief google, I discovered this very long, very handy, very depressing but also strangely uplifting thread. Nice to hear my own feelings about this much loved, much ridiculed and much underrated car echoed by so many. Somebody hit the nail on the head a few pages back when they recognised the gen 2’s real value was flying under the radar, never catching the eye of would be thieves. Sad that those days are well and truly over now. If nothing else sharing my experience here has been cathartic and helped me curb my urge to hit B&Q and go full ‘Home Alone’ mode.
You may want to consider the cat loc or some sort of after market device just for peace of mind apparently they are still targeting even if it’s not a genuine part. For £150/200 I think it is money well spent as most insurance excess would be that amount or more unfortunately.
Are 3rd or 4th generation models as attractive to thieves? We haven't heard much about them. It seems a very 2nd generation specific problem?
I still have a brand new spare CatStrap Protection System with alarm available for sale if anybody is interested, PM me . Ordered from the US last December. Better safe than sorry iPad ? Pro
Not yet heard of any but Honda jazz mercedes Benz sprinter vans are big targets too Newer Prius the access to the catalytic convertor is more diiffuxlt to access plus my guess is they may have reduced the amount of valuable metals inside and used ceramic coatings
Sorry to hear about the new members car who got relieved of their cat in Charlton, it was probably the same group who done mine. I’ve managed to get in touch with my local MP, who has got in touch with the sergeant of the police station where I reported it, I’m not sure what will be the outcome but will of course update on here.
Mini update, police have closed the file due to lack of evidence (as far as I’m aware, they haven’t checked the cctv), on a good note the car has been authorised for repair so hoping to get it back before the hire car goes next Monday!
Hi All, I am joining the club, my CAT of 2009 was stolen at 2PM on this Saturday at Sainsbury,s Winchmore hill parking.... I am looking for aftermarket CAT as well, please advise me which Lamdba sensor is good if you have installed, many thanks!
If you scroll through this post you will see recommendations. Did you report it to the police for a crime reference number ?
https://on.rt.com/9qg7 Palladium prices rocketing maybe all catalytic converters are going to be targets not just prius gen 2 I suppose any with easy access unprotected ones
Sorry for your loss. The tool looks like one of these: 20V MAX* XR® Brushless Compact Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only) - DCS367B | DEWALT Regards, John
I got mine back today, the car is at my work compound until I get the catloc fitted week after next. The garage said they’ve had another three Prius cars in the garage since mine. Grrr
