If it looks totally different from PRIME's switch, then question is would it be interchangeable? If not @Trollbait suggestion would not work.

For one thing, the latch handle on the Gen 2 & 3 is behind a rubber cover. On the Gen 4 and Prime it is exposed. I'm not so sure that's a factor in it rusting, but it would be a factor in us seeing the rust. :)

Rubber on Gen 4. I corrected myself (& almost made the same mistake again!)

Really? I wonder why Gen 4 & Prime aren't the same. Saving weight?

That's what I was thinking. BTW, that thing sure is nicer to operate than the Gen 2 & 3. I should compare it to the regular Gen 4 if I get a chance.

The LED headlights have been used for a while. I remember when my son got his 2015 Prius v. The LED lights definitely light up the road & signs more.

You like the camel back (2 hump) rear window?

I am the OP of the first thread about the rust on the hatch handle. I have no news yet from Toyota but I was told that the metal portion is part of the hatch . It can't be replaced without replacing the entire hatch.

This is my second winter with my car .. I'm sure the rust will be worst this spring .... Now my idea is to sand it down and paint it black with Anti-rust paint .. then trying to make a mold of the handle and then create a silicone cover that will protect the whole thing ....

It is probably a piece of steel embedded in the CF to give extra strength to the handle area. The gen4's aluminum hatch wouldn't need that.

I figured on rust-proof paint on mine, too. Have you found a way yet to access it so you can paint the entire handle? Just painting the part that's visible won't really help. I assume the plastic panel pops off the inside much like the other models but haven't had time to check it out.

Perhaps remove the interior hatch panel? The switch is likely screwed to the hatch skin.

Exactly. I was just wondering if someone had actually done that yet to see where are the best places to apply leverage. I will probably try to experiment with that this weekend.

The plastic covers around the rear hatch and lights are easy to remove with small flat screwdriver and show how much road grime gets in that area. There is a 90 degree bend in the bar (showing rust) 1 inch from the inside edge of the rear brake lights, and a bead of foam insulation above the top of the bar, I assume near the glass parts of the rear hatch. I smeared on some wd40 on the rust for now and will use products suggested in this thread if it gets worse. I could not get a look behind the bar for now.

IMG_20190325_160303.jpg Here is what mine looks like after it's first winter. I forgot to grab a photo after my wash a few weeks ago. The rust has really started to come through in the past week.
