    Hello,

    I have a 2013 plug in prius.
The vehicle wont start and says there is a P-Lock malfunction
I bought the techscan tool and got some codes.
    See attached image

What i have done so far in my endeavor to track down this issue.
Replaced dead 12V battery with brand new. (when running the car to do tests i have a 12V psu on the battery to not over drain it.)
Check all fuses under the hood as well as relays.
Looked for corrosion and dont see any.
All plugs under relays seem to have power.

I am aware of the tech website with diagrams for my vehicle but i do not want to buy the 2 days pass until i feel i have enough places to look and not waste the limited time i have access to it.
I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers about the modules locations and what harnesses to check.

Dare I suggest the most obvious: Are you parked on a steep slope where the parking pawl may be stuck from friction, and a good nudge or two could free it?

It is on level ground in my garage.
It was jerked around alot when trying to get it off the flat bed.
This vehicle refused to go into neutral so makes it super hard to move...
Also what do you mean nudge like roll the car forward or backward or like tap rubber mallet on this cover or spot?

Nudge means to rock the car forward and backwards.

Yes i have tried to move the car forward and backward and try to start it,
I also checked to make sure the tail lights work when pressing the breaks.

    welcome!

    how many miles on her?

    How long have you owned?

    Why was it flatbeded?

They might have damaged the parking pawl system while jerking it around

    Thanks,

    It has 150k miles

    about 1 week

The vehicle was dead in the owner's driveway.
Would not go into neutral, had the same message (when i gave it a jump pack as the 12V was dead).
So i bought it for a good price (under 2k) as my first foray into the new hybrid electric cars.
Been working on cars for a while but this is my first time with a hybrid.
The last Toyota i rebuilt was a 2010 matrix much different beast.
So much new stuff to learn.

get a copy of toyota tech stream diagnostic software on amazon (see threads here for information) you will need it for proper code reading before downloading the service manual and trouble shooting tree.

I did and i attached an image of the screen with all the codes in the opening post.
I bought a year subscription to alldatadiy for 15$ and it seems to have alot of the info i need to get started.
me and my multimeter are going to be very busy this weekend.

edit, Why is every single post i make always getting "awaiting moderator approval" for like 5 hours?

Several months ago (a year, maybe?) we got absolutely inundated by a spammer to the point where no one could find the legitimate posts. They had to introduce this moderating practice to put a stop to it. If I remember right, five approved posts is the threshold for no longer needing moderation. If not, you're close to it.

Anyway, just looking at that list of codes without actually looking them up, I wonder if that new 12V battery you installed is charged up. The 12V has to be pretty low to throw codes, but when it does, they will seem to be unrelated even though they are related if you know enough about the system. And that would fit with the parking pawl not retracting.

Hope you get it running. Sounds like a great deal if you do.

    Well i have an update.
Did some probing around and working with the scan tools
missing ECUS on CAN scan page
    the only ones showing are
air conditionamp, airbag, d door mtr, p door mtr, master switch, rl door mtr, rr door mtr, skid control, trans control,

Also my IG +B voltage is zero
Fuses are good and have power and the relay is working confirmed on my bench psu and the terminal under have power.
Still need to find the solution to his problem.

Also my CANL and CANH on my ECU connector is reading 62ohms. the spec says 108-132
I tracked this down to a module under my hybrid battery if i unplug the right connector the readings go back to within spec.
    Picture attached.

Long shot, but.sometimes fuses look OK, but are bad. Did to test the fuse and/or replace it?

I tested each fuse and relay with my meter.
Every fuse came out fine. every relay worked and read less than 0.4ohms when activated.
Im just worried that a whole handfull of ECUs are shot for some reason.
Dont want to go putting in new ECUs in if i cant find out why they died or risk doing it twice.

Talked to a few dealerships about buying hybrid battery parts.
They informed me they are not able to sell them but have reached out to toyota too see how to possibly acquire them.
But they were so kind as to give me a price of 10k for a complete new battery.
    Or 2.5k for a module.
But they said the system says they cant order the part so they are unsure.
Has anyone ever gotten a new battery for the plug in models?
    What was your experience?
Im looking into maybe getting a donor car with some major front end damage and low miles for the battery.

Used ones seem to be going for about $2k on Ebay. I looked at several Dealer websites and none even listed it, so I'm guessing it would be special order. Based I what I saw in a 7-year old thread here, that $10k price you got is about the same as when the car was first released. That stinks!!

Seems at that price i could spend a bit more and get alot more parts getting a vehicle that was front end totaled.
