It looks like if I have any ICE operation and switch back to EV, there is a net increase in the added charge. Not huge but visible in the data. If I time it right to EV the whole time and arrive at "--", I get a smaller net charge.

Confirmed, it looks like if I have any ICE operation and switch back to EV, there is a net increase in the added charge, ~155 Wh. Not huge but visible in the data. If I time it right to EV the whole time and arrive at "--", I get a smaller net charge.

The Volt does something similar, if you run the ICe mid trip to the point it’s fully warmed up it allows you to dip deeper in the battery, especially at low <25 mph speeds

Maybe time to disassemble the Prime can bus as has been done on the Volt to keep the motor off to the lower limit using an obdii and a cellular app?

    • EV only - lower left group
    • EV+ICE - upper right, ~155 Wh, so you pay for some gas and extra electricity

Interesting: I may have seen that effect too, now that you mention it. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for that.

However, one related scenario where that didn’t seem to work:
    1. Got to work <0.3 miles on the guestimatron.
    2. Powered it up to go plug in, and it showed ~1.2 miles.
    3. Drove it around the block until he ICE kicked in.
    4. Plugged it in.
I don’t remember the exact numbers, but it actually changed slightly fewer than the usual 5.7ish KWh, and the Guestimatron also show considerably fewer miles than usual — something like 25ish.

This morning, I was driving the dogs to the 'squirrel park' and forgot about the auto-engine start when: (1) temperature ~40 F; (2) SOC > 92%, and; (3) set cruise control. Sad to say, I was already on the limited access cross-town route. At my earliest opportunity, I pulled off, stopped, and power-on restart. The rest was an ordinary EV drive.

The Prime Plus key fob enables warming when cold or cooling when hot without needing an iPhone App. The BMW requires using BMW Connect to do the same. But the BMW key fob will roll down the windows walking to the car, a nice hot weather option. Comparing the key fobs:
    • Prime - activate pre-conditioning for hot or cold weather
    • BMW i3 - roll windows down walking to car

The Prime key fob can be programmed at the dealer to roll down the windows

Carista (and possibly other apps) can change that setting as well. Funny enough they don’t seem to have a setting to roll the windows UP though. Miss that from my VW days.

Got to use the tow eye-bolt. I'd visited a remote gunsmith and thought I could loop out the drive but damp Alabama mud had no traction to the front wheel. We had to cut down two small diameter trees and I put the eye-bolt in. He attached a chain and pulled the car back to the gravel drive. Problem solved.

I am starting to think that the Prime would benefit a lot of the AWD that now can be fitted on a regular Prius.

Very unlikely to happen. The AWD system was on the Prius from the beginning, it was part of the car during development. That wasn't likely done with the Prime and the extra weight of its battery. Then Toyota only equips the AWD Prius with a NiMH battery.

How was the rear camber adjusted, it's readily doable, without shims?

Apologies if this was discussed earlier.

I know there are adjustments mentioned in the Toyota manuals for the Gen-3 but they looked to require special equipment. I was actually shocked when the service writer said they could do it. So I said yes.

When I got home, I put that car in the 'Trade-in' for our Model 3. A couple of hours later, Tesla offered a very generous, $18,300. My curiosity about the Prius Prime has suddenly evaporated.
