Highest Cash Back Incentive on Prime - $5000?

    Debating on whether to purchase a 2018 or 2019 Prime plus......Currently driving a 2011 prius with 90K miles on it. The car has worked flawlessly for 8 yrs now....only oil changes and tires.

    Here in upstate NY Toyota is providing a $5K cash back incentive on the 2018s.....in addition the dealers are discounting the cars further $600 -1000. My questions ........(1) Has the cash back incentive for the prime ever exceeded $5K in previous years and (2) any thought on 2018 vs 2019.....which one is wiser.

    I might be wrong, but $4500 was the top figure for 2017 model in NY/NJ last year before 2018 models came in. I doubt it will exceed $5000 for this years model.

    i just bought a week a go. fwiw, in my research
    i did not find that the incentive ever surpassed 5k
    the 5k is only good on the leftovers 2017/2018. not the the 2019 models
    cant combine the .9 financing with the 5k off. its either or. but you can finance at regular toyota rates, 3.9 if good credit etc.
    there is nothing significantly better about the 2019, so mighty as well get the 2018.
    dealers are offering more than 600-1000 off. i got 1950, others may have even gotten more. varies dealer to dealer, what their dealer fees are etc, but under 26k for a Premium was good enough for me, that was OTD all taxes fees etc. also might depend on trim level, you might get a bit less off on the Plus, a bit more off on the Advance.
    there is a whole thread about PRIME prices, go check it out.
    on top of what ever price you can negotiate, the Prime is eligible for fed tax credit 4502, and any state credit. i think NY offers one.
    in my case that takes my price in PA from 25923 - 4502fed - 750state = 20671
    you could sell your prius or trade it on the new one for an even lower final price.
    real question is do you gain by getting the plug in PRIME ?
    do you have a place to charge, at home, at work, for free? lots or annual miles ?
    a 2011 with low miles like yours has another 5 years of low maintenance, no reason to dump it...

    i live in PA, but bought over in NJ for the 5k discount.
    i was going for 25 otd on the PREMIUM, but i knew 25.5 was more realistic, and others had paid around 25875. best i could haggle was 25923, but that was reasonable enough that i didnt bother to drive to the other dealer 10 miles away. might have gotten better deal if i had walked out and let them call me the next day. i wasnt going to drive back to jersey 2 days in a row just to save 3-4hundred bucks. over the 10+ years i will own this car thats nothing.i think my numbers were aggressive 23 otd for a plus 25 otd for a premium 29 otd for an advance. for an advance i offered 27.5 otd because for me realistically its not worth 4k more than the premium. but they wouldnt even counter offer. since i wanted the premium anyway, i just lowballed 24.5 for the premium, at least they countered at 26.5, and we settled at 25.9 dont forget this is otd pricing which includes taxes fees. other thread breaks the price down exactly.

    It would be nice to see Primes at dealerships:cool:.

    If it had a 5k rebate and they had a red or blue magnetism in stock, I’d pass on your challenge and upgrade for sure(y).

    ...which has overwhelmingly proven itself a vital component to the understanding of market.

    Cashback offers for outdated stock is exactly what that burndown of inventory last year was intended to help prevent. For the most part, it was very effective too. Dealers have the discretion of how sell what's on their lot though. If one sits on old models for an excessively long time, that's their choice. Not knowing what would happen in 2019 due to the burndown may have given some good reason to simply wait until now to try to sell. After all, a location like that gets a ton of snow. So those sales are hampered anyway.

    But there’s never been a glut of them out here:cool:.

    The highest incentive out here was maybe $2k but I know it never approached the east coast levels;).

    While the east coast may need to “get in touch” with their audience better, out here gas is still $3 a gallon and hybrids still sell not sit on dealer lots:).

    reality is east coasters arent as green. plus gas has been cheap, and winter means FWD prius's arent the best for the snow.
    plus people are generally scared of everything now and want a giant suv to protect their spawn. north east might be liberal... but not green.
    so west coast they sell like hot cakes, east coast they sit, even with incentives !! might be worth the flight to come snag one, ship it home ??
    dealers dont care, there are always hundreds of cars on the lots, they will wait until someone clueless comes along and buys the car. many people would be thrilled when the dealer pretends to make them a great deal. not realizing they are getting screwed. people want to believe they are smart, dealer just has to play along. in the end i bet not a single prius was sold at a loss even with the 5k incentive and all the salesmen crying about their zero commission;)

    If your dealer is not giving you at least 2k discount on the 2018 and the full rebate I would walk. If the east coast dealers were giving 3000 discount plus 4000 rebate back in December 2018, they are even more desperate now with the new 2019 models coming on the lot soon. I have a strong feeling the incentive on the 2018 will be extended into March in the NE region because the inventory is stuck on their hands.
