Any thoughts on what happened here?

Today is January 29th and I just took this picture at 8:40 AM.

I have not been messing with settings, but I double checked that the January 30th date shown is not from a prior year, and I did in fact drive 465 miles yesterday, January 28th, and just finished a 37.6 mile trip this morning (January 29th)

I am not sure when this happened, but since I tend to look at this screen frequently, my best guess is that the dates got out of sequesnce very recently.

    Is there a simple expanantion?

Today is Tuesday the 29th, right??

The most obvious answer is that your clock is 12 hours "off" so that it changes the date at noon instead of midnight.

It could be that your clock is off by 12 hours.

Is the AM/PM for the current time correct?

Good theory, but if the clock were set to PM before noon yesterday, the distance actually driven yesterday (465 miles) would have shown as split between two days (half that distance was actually driven in the AM and half in the PM).

If the clock was incorrectly set to PM after yesterday midnight, it would not flip the day until noon today, right?

In any case when I went to reset the clock it showed “AM” was set correctly.

Solution — reset the date, of course.

Thankfully I only lost my daily mileage records, and not the monthly summaries. I wish I could have kept them, though.

Keeping in mind that I'm totally new to the Gen-4 cars (well, three weeks new), is there any way, either inherently with the car, or through linking a device with an internet connection, that the car is using an "externally sourced" time reference? IF that's possible, then a bogus "update" MIGHT explain the strange date. Might. I'm just theorizing. To be perfectly clear, I have ZERO ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE of whether or not this could actually happen at all. I'm still eagerly absorbing all I can about this neat new car!

    Read the owners manual.
The answer to most of your questions is right in there. (y)

As I said, I've had the car three weeks. The manual is 820 pages long.* I haven't "mastered" it yet. I was clear about that. The OP asked a question; I threw out a theoretical idea. Nobody else had (or since has...) offered up the conclusive answer... Instead of elusive, let's do conclusive! If you can answer the OP's question, by all means, I defer -- please do so!

*EDIT: which I have in both paper form (didn't arrive until a week after I got the car -- dealer had lost it....) and in pdf form on my ipad and computer. As it is with the aircraft I fly, I know my cars very well. It just doesn't happen overnight. Too bad you can't just hold the manual against the side of your head and let osmosis do the work... :p

Sorry. I somehow thought that you WERE the OP.

Not all questions can have a "conclusive" answer because ALL of the facts are not usually known.

No prob, it's all good. I admit, I'm a tad OCD about such things (imagine, an OCD Prius owner...). Just for fun, if you want to get really, really anal about time, call (202) 762-1401. It's a computer voice readout of the U.S. Naval Observatory Master Clock (itself the output of a cluster of several precise atomic clocks). It's there for anyone who cares to call, and it's been the same voice since at least the mid-80s when I started using it. Yes, when I fumbled through setting my Prius's clock the first time, I used it! I click when the voice says, "exactly" and it beeps.;):p

There can be propagation delays in the phone network.......up to several seconds.

I know, and that disturbs me!:rolleyes: Like I said, OCD... I still use the phone line vs similar internet connections because I figure the delay, if any, will be relatively short and consistent. With the internet, who knows -- the connection might be going to Tazmania and back after having been bounced off Jupiter. . . :p

    Thank you and a thought.

If you feel a need to share this wisdom in other threads, you might consider including a link to the electronic version of the owner’s manual— and perhaps wax poetic about how reading it on a free Kindle App might be the way to go.

It might not help the person you are ostensibly trying to aid, but at least the post would have the potential to benefit others. :)
