Saying goodbye to my 2010 Prius III with 155,000 miles. A young oncoming driver took an illegal left turn directly in front of me and I had no time to react. We collided and I spun nearly 180 degrees. My airbags deployed as my front end crumbled. Fortunately I was able to walk away with only a concussion, sprained wrist, and bruised chest. The airbags pack a real punch! Thank you, Prius engineers, for seat belts, airbags, and other safety features! My car was totaled with more than $15,000 of estimated repairs.

Saying hello to my new car---a 2018 Prius IV! Can you tell I like Blizzard Pearl? This has a moonstone interior. Picked it up last week and love it! Reading the Gen 4 forum and learning lots! Thank you for sharing your info and insights on the forum!

A silver lining, and a beautiful looking car! Glad you're ok and getting something good out of a bad situation.

Yep, that's a little more than the buffer can handle! Very glad to hear that YOU buffed out OK!! ;) Nice new car -- 9.8 as is, would've been a 10 in Magnetic Grey! :p

Sorry to hear of the crash, but congrats on the car! I'm new to a 2017 Prius IV this weekend too, after trading out my black 2008 with just over 300k. This is our second Blizzard Pearl and I have to say I love the color.

Wondering a little about bisco's comment above since our 2012 has about 150k on it. I haven't been on this site a ton in the last few years, but are there known issues coming I should be aware of?

    Congrats on the 2018!

I suspect as you get used to it your fuel economy may improve over the 2010.
The Gen 4 has even better crash test results and safety features, but please do not test them. ;)

There are TAXIs of that age with treble that distance on - nothing is perfect, but overall, they're one of the most reliable and long-lasting cars on the road.

Regional differences. In the US we would use the word "triple" reserving "treble" for use then adjusting sound.

    WOW! Bummer! Congratulations!!

Pretty dramatic way to get a new car. Glad you're OK, though.

The 2010 and 2011 Prii were prone to excessive oil consumption, especially as they aged. 2012 and onward are fine. Assuming that's what was meant.

I'm not sure why that delineation would be. @NutzAboutBolts eluded to something similar in another thread, albeit regarding head gasket durability. The only mechanical differences I'm aware of, and apparently both in an attempt to reduce oil consumption: in 2014 (model year) pistons were revised, and in 2015 piston rings as well.

One other change I've heard of is a revised intake manifold, apparently in an attempt to reduce EGR clogging. Not sure which model year that was, possibly 2012. It was maybe not that effective though.

FWIW, our 2010 (just coming up on 80K kms, admittedly very low "miles") is consuming NO oil, so far...

I'm not knowledgeable enough on the Prius to state why it is. It's just what I've seen from reviews and on sites such as carcomplaints.com. Also I've seen a much larger number of Prii for sale in the years 2010 and 2011 with oil consumption issues and/or engine rebuilds required.

I know the 2015 Prius v had body changes to better handle the small overlap crash tests.

You'll love the moonstone with the white exterior. I was very worried about it getting dirty inside but mine has held up extremely well.

I was concerned about the Moonstone so I got the beige interior with my Blizzard Pearl. The black was too dark.

Beige is my favorite. My '05 had it.

I really prefer a gray but that was not an option.
I was interested in actually seeing the moonstone but then this beige one came available.
