hi so I test drove a 05 prius with a hybrid battery problem and when I test driving it I try to floor the car to hear any abnormal sound and the car don't go it just go 10-15MPH. I cleared the hybrid light before I test drive the car. when I drive on a steep hill the gas pedal is on the floor and it just going 5MPH. Do the hybrid battery affect this? forgot to say the 12v battery is dead too from sitting too long
Am curious were/how this vehicle was found, as I haven't seen an affordable gen2 with a bad battery locally
I would guess not Craigslist, cheap Prius there go in a New York Minute. Junkyard in Roseville had one that had a bad traction battery on Craigslist for 1000. They got calls from 3 states away in the first half hour
Post fire(s), the local gen2 market moved up a notch. Also interesting as the gen3 market is still settling down. Guessing people without a home have to live somewhere at the end of the day, or the gig economy is still chasing cupcakes
forgot whats the hybrid code i'll let you know the code tomorrow when I put in a new 12v battery since I tested the 12v battery today and its dead and have to replace it. the car is my coworker he got a few car and say he doesn't have time to fix it. so he selling it for 1k to me and told me the car got a hybrid battery problem.
Looks like block 12 is the culprit. You planning to keep the car for a while? If so, new battery is the only way to go. If you just need the car for a couple months then whack-a-mole may work for you.
is the 16.9v on all other battery seems ok? I see that people get 17v on them. when I put in the new 12v battery theres no hybrid warning light, that's the only code it pop up when I plug in the techstream. when I test drive it more it fully charge fast then went down to 1 bar very quickly. It seems weird that if 1 battery pack fail the battery bar drop that quick?
It actually only takes one cell (of the 6 in each module) to bring the battery down. Each module has to behave in the same manner as all its buddies, otherwise mayhem ensues.
alright but do the hybrid battery voltage looks right? they are 16.9v. I thought a good battery suppose to be 17v+
A single static reading of the battery (any battery, anywhere) can't be used to validate the health of the battery unless it's way outside the usable ranges.
alright i'll let u guys know next week. my friend say it aint worth it since you have to fix the rear bumper because owner got hit from the rear. when changing out the 12v battery I saw puddle of water in the spare tire area and the 12v battery area. last things is I heard some wind noise coming from the front of the passenger side when going 70mph. last thing is the trunk strut is making a loud noise. My friend say after fixing all those stuff plus new hybrid battery or just replacing the cells will cost you the same amount as buying a craigslist car so its not a big discount like the seller say. my friend say if he can sell it for $500 then its worth it but for 1k with all those problem its not worth it. what do you guys think?
