    But the gen2 added a fifth seat, or at least one good enough for a child seat or short trip use. Perhaps that was its downfall?

    Well let's see what he says.
    1. Not everyone is a retired engineer and don't live by obsession with statistical analysis
    2. I currently own a Prius for about 7 years now and that is why I am in the "House of Prius."
    3. Bob owns a Prius and a BMW, why is he in the "House of Tesla" subforum?
    4. Bob is in the "House of Tesla" throwing snark.
    5. I guess Bob feels he can define what snark is by other people but for himself, snark is just facts and data by a retired engineer.
    6. I guess Bob prefers to attack legitimate forum members rather than those member's facts and data.
    I still maintain that Toyota is doing a poor job of addressing climate change, working towards a sustainable future, assuming someone else will provide the infrastructure for alternative fuels, and recognizing what the future is for personal transportation. They have the experience, infrastructure, and financial resources to be THE major player in BEV development. They were a leader in EV development 15 years ago, but currently, they are about 5 to 6 years behind the curve in the next iteration of EV development. Sure let them play around with fuel cells, no harm no foul, but for right now that technology is going nowhere fast. Toyota can still turn it around quickly, but it appears they will not be doing that anytime soon and that is a shame. Despite what Toyota management says, I do not believe "We are truly encouraged by what should be an incredible 2019” unless you define a 5% or more loss of sales across the entire product line in 2019 as incredible. Not only will there be Tesla with the $35K model 3 and model Y (vacuuming up Toyota hybrid owners) but also BEVs from KIA, Hyundai, Nissan, VW, (in America and Europe) and Chinese products (for the Asian market) hitting squarely at the Toyota "sweet spot". Call that "snark" if you like, but those are the "facts and data."

    i agree with many of your points, but this is where you get it all wrong, trying to impose your view on others.
    not that it matters either way, we're not changing hearts and minds in america, or the world

    As it relates, Tesla sells BEVs and ONLY to that market. Toyota does not. I suggest people buy what they want from who they want. I personally will not try to second guess they strategy. If I could do a better job than they do, I would be a whole lot wealthier than anyone on this forum. ;) YMMV

    That is the point. Tesla is selling BEVs to the Toyota Prius market primarily (as well as other makers). Toyota sales are down overall and will continue to be down as Tesla and other BEV makers expand their product line. Toyota needs to respond and respond quickly if they want to maintain their market lead.
