    Fuel Filling Problem | PriusChat

This has happened to me twice in 200 fill ups.

Had It not been for Prius Chat and threads like this one, I would have been in pickle.

Thanks - yes, I think that refers only to the US models, as ours doesn't have the same mechanism. I wonder - seeing this thread has been inactive for over 12 months if the TSB has solved everyone's problem?

Thanks ATHiker. I’m almost always the one to refill the Prius...and, I’m careful with the fuel door switch. Good information, though.

Like you, I'm retired. Can't hike in the mountains, bicycle or walk very far, like I used to. With my binoculars, spotting scopes, camera & four economy cars, I take good advantage of my lovely Washington state.

Good for you! Washington is beautiful. I own a small cabin on the eastern side near the Canadian border that I try to get up to occasionally... nice country.

Did one semester overseas in the UK, Cambridge. Got my first dose of Turkish coffee there. Whoa. akin to rye whisky ..... it does take a few hits to get used to.

I've not run into it - though it sounds a little ... strong. Reminds me of the old fashioned percolator which I used 40 years ago - which worked fine on an electric stovetop and removed. But we moved to a home with a slow combustion (wood) stove, and I'd tend to leave it on the back corner of the cooktop - it got quite strong by the last cup. But smelled glorious as it gently plop-plop-plop-ed away.

Totally off subject, but @ATHiker I would love to have your Insurance!!! I live in Southern Indiana (farm country) And I was quoted $137/month for a 2016 4 touring. I am currently paying $93/month for an 08 prius 2... Clean driving record no claims in over 15yrs And have had State Farm for 26yrs. I even have my life and Homeowners insurance through them.

Adjusted for inflation, that's about a buck a mile. With the ease that you could push a valve through a piston, the cost to repair? That sounds about right

I like the way most of you look at this. I bought mine not to save the planet, but out of becoming a little more fiscally conservative.

Just want to say...awesome write up! So often I read these total cost reports that leave out half of the expenses! Very thorough analysis!

Thanks for sharing, I bought a 2016 Prius touring 5 months ago. I have put 14k miles on it. I calculated my cost for gas & last month I drove 3500 miles & spent like $180 on gas for the month. It's costing me .05 a mile to drive this car. That's pretty damn gd.

it's almost like having a time share, the more I use it, the more I save on gas!!! This is me driving like a nascar going 70-90 mph on the interstate. I avg anywhere from 47-53mpg.

Massachusetts opened up the car insurance to the free market some years ago, and rates dropped dramatically.

For me Geico was best, but Progressive has always been in the same ballpark (had to give up AMICA).

In December I paid $1003 to cover both my 2016 and my wife’s 2010 Prius — with $500 deductible and responsible amount of coverage.

Now retired so my mileage has dropped considerably!

Reviewing my Fuelly App, it looks like my average mileage over almost six years fell just shy of what was claimed on the window sticker .

Total cost of of ownership over 143k miles looks to be down to about $0.23 per mile.

That incudes most everything —taxes, fees, gas, tire, repairs, MA state insurance — except the cost of my capital. If I took out a loan or factored in lost interest that figure would be higher. I also deducted a whopping $13k from my total $46k spent over the past 5 3/4 years for the cars current value.

    Not bad, I think.

So our lease is $330/month, with $2,000 down. So round up to $12k for three years.

at the end of 3 years we will have put 6,000-7,500 miles total on the car.

    so $2+ a mile.
