Engine swap question

Pressure washer.

 

I did but still the water is not flowing freely. I will try oxy clean dish powder to see if it helps. I am going to take apart the one that came with the engine to see how it looks and water flow rate to compare it

 

Definitely compare the two and the lower mileage one should be easier to clean.

What tip are you using on the pressure washer gun?

I use the most focused spray pattern and hit every passage. If you are getting flow, you’ll be able to blast through it with a directed force.

The OVEN CLEANER will EAT the carbon. It will make it mush. Then you can blow it away with the pressure washer.
But feel free to clean it 5,10,20, etc. times with soap. $3 for a can of oven cleaner. 30 minutes for it to work.
Maybe longer since it's so clogged...
But your decision....

 

Oven cleaner might do it; it's further towards the basic end of the PH spectrum than Oxi.

if all else fails, a new cooler is around $200~250. Or buy a salvage cooler for about $100, hopefully in better shape, more cleanable.

 

He already has a spare on the new engine .

Both can’t possibly be to the point of no return .

Send them to me and I’ll send you my clean spare .

 

For last time i soaked it in 3 part degreaser and 1 part hot water. Let see tomorrow then i will try oven cleaner. I just saw it while washing my hands(didnt know we had one).

 

I have harbor freight power washer and its on finest setting (i guess thats what its called) i will try again after i use oven cleaner. Which side should i power wash from. The vapor comes from exhaust manifold side then to the intake so back washed it once. Should i do the same or do it wise versa?

 

Both @Mendel Leisk and I used a degreaser before the oxiclean to clean out our coolers. Maybe that's the key.

I clean from both sides. If one side is posing an issue, I’d hit it from the other side.

Eventually you’ll break through and both sides will flow freely.

 

Really? I was picturing this rip-snorting gas-powered behomoth. I keep seeing your EGR coolers braking loose from the deck chair, and launching...

 

The Harbor Freight “back in the day” brand was Wheel Horse. It is red and puts out 1700 psi running off of 120 power.

Small and compact, just right for Suburbia and having a good tool arsenal.

Yeah, and I think @Raytheeagle is on the right tact: shoot it in both ends. Did you manage to run a wire through, can't recall.

I found a regular coax cable wire just fit. There's a thicker gauge coax also, might be too thick.

You need to file the tip, take any burr off, and kind of rotate it this way and that, bit of a labyrinth that can snag it.

 

If you don't have a pressure washer take it to the do it yourself car wash, worth a try.

The trick to any job is having what you need on hand before you start the job.
