Hello, what i would like to find out is the reason for difference in the performance between standard prius gen 3 and prius plug-in gen 1. As far as i know, plug-in version takes about 1 second more from 0 to 100 km/h than standard prius (approx. 10,5 sec vs 11,5 sec), even though it is only a little bit heavier, negligible for such difference in acceleration data. Is it because control system of the power-train operates differently or is it something else? I would really like to hear the impressions of the people who had driven both cars, is there any difference in the feel how much power there is available in each car with full throttle? Thank you in advance.
If you buy a prius and worry about 1 second between the normal and plug in, then i think you are buying the wrong car (no trying to be rude just opinion) the plug in is heavier thats probably why, the suspension is slightly more robust but no noticible difference, the plug in is usually more expensive, but if you can get the plug in for the same price as the normal you will want to get the plug in, better battery and you could get better gas milage if you dont charge it.
No offence taken I am not planning drag races, but still the car has to be useable in everyday life, i.e. it has to be powerfull enough to pass a truck on some road in some time which is not dangerously long. So that's why it bothers me is the plug-in version noticably slower than regular prius or not.
You made me curious. I googled and found 0-60 Times | Find 0 to 60 & Quarter Mile Times Car Specs I compared the two and they said this: I'm not aware of any tuning differences between them. I do know that weight makes a big difference in acceleration. It also impacts fuel economy as I noticed yesterday while making a 50+ mile trip with a heavy friend. That said, my PiP's acceleration is enough for me. If it wasn't, I'd still have a sport touring motorcycle.

I've only test driven a few standard Gen 3 Prius briefly, didn't really feel any difference between them and mine. One thing to note since you're in Europe: There is no "PWR Mode" in the Plug-in, as it's replaced by "EV City" mode (which further restricts ICE usage). But this just changes the linearity of throttle response - flooring it in normal HV mode isn't any different to PWR mode.

I would also expect that they are more less the same, but i found on toyota.uk faq page (i can't put a link as a newbie) the info that li-ion is 40 kg heavier and plug-in is 1 second slower than standard prius, which makes no sense to me, 40 kg is the weight of a kid, it cannot make the difference in performance. That's why if thought there is something else, maybe something in control system which puts more accent to the fuel saving other than performance.
Final Scoring, Performance Data, and Complete Specs 10.2 secs naught to 60 according to Car and Driver. I’m pretty sure the regular Prius doesn’t do it in 9.2. (Closer to 9.8 IIRC)
Yeah, the 0-60 figures don't make sense. I don't think they're that useful anyway for normal driving, something like 30-60 MPH would be more relevant.
A lot of Prius drivers are content to stay in line with the trucks, good for the mpg, easier on the nerves.
