Hello all, a few months ago a friend tried selling a prius to me that he bought his parents. Turns out the car he bought would completely shut off on his parents randomly. And would then require a jumpstart in order to drive again. He eventually gave it to me so he didn't have to look at it anymore.

Neither battery would hold a charge. After finding a good deal on both the 12v and HV battery... I was able to replace them this past weekend.

Now the prius will not go into drive or reverse. After I hit the power button twice it shows an orange light. And a bunch of dash lights come on. Including the (no car) symbol on the display. I'm a little stumped as to what my next step should be... Any help would be amazing!

Also... The gas gauge is on one tick mark and blinking. Even after putting 2 gallons in it. IMG_20190108_183442799.jpeg IMG_20190108_183509400.jpeg IMG_20190108_183518741.jpeg IMG_20190108_183530006.jpeg

I believe you need to put at least 3 gallons in at one time for the gas gauge to respond. That’s not your problem though, The Gauge always resets when you change the battery. That’s still not your problem though. I suggest getting a mini VCI and Techstream and letting us know what codes come up

The problem is most likely he didn't properly lock the orange interlock switch on the HV battery.

    1. Insert into the HV battery, Flip Lever up, and then push DOWN to lock.

If you press the power button once while holding the brake pedal down, can you get the word READY to show up on the dash? You haven't said one way or the other.

The orange plug is inserted and flipped up and pushed down.

However, I did try to turn the car on while not having it pushed down. Do you think that is effecting it still?

I have not looked for a "ready" light on the dash. I'll try it tonight. I've only noticed the power button is green while in accessory mode. Then turn orange once I hit power for the second time.

The one blinking light is due to the loss of 12v power. This will happen EVERY time 12v dies on the car. The level sensor will calibrate itself anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours after 12v is restored and provide a true level. It's a great indicator of a 12v problem. Another good indicator is if the driver window "auto" up/down feature stops working or if the radio presets are gone. I also agree with JC about the HV disconnect. It's a pretty high probability.

Are you holding your foot on the brake while you are pushing the button?
