    Hello Prius Chat members,

Well, i have tried to search for Hybrid forums for my Toyota Yaris hybrid but i can't find any, so i have to ask about it here as it runs the same engine (1NZ-FXE) as the Prius C.

My car doesn't want to start, i press the brake, press the start button, dashboard lights turns on but the car is not running, some of the dashboard lights are still on and car wont run, i have to wait for like 20-30 seconds and try again to make it work.

Is it a dead 12v battery or an Actuator as some people told me?

    Check the video for more

    Thanks

You should get a multimeter to measure the 12V battery. I've the same symptom as you last month. The car won't go into [READY], just in Ign-On. If I depressed the brake a few times, the car would start to pump up the brake accumulator and the dashboard lights would go dim. I've Scangauge and the 12V battery is showing less than 9V. I've to wait for a few minutes for the voltage to go over about 9.5V for it to go into [READY].

I've replaced the 12V battery and now it is working fine.

    Thanks a lot Vincent.

Well, i have tried to run the car for like 20-30 minutes drive, parked it, turned it off, and started the diagnose screen on, it shows 10V to 10.8V after like 10 minutes of stoping (car is off just the screen is on, pressed once on the push start)

If i leave the car for like a day and run it in the morning, open the diagnose screen, it shows 9v to 9.5v.

Well this information help till i get it to a mechanic to test the 12v battery?

I have like 52k miles on the dashboard, car is originally from Europe, running now in Jordan middle east, and the weather here is exactly the same as Greece, Italy, South Europe, if that would help.

30 mins or 16 km drive should charge it above 12.5V (Open voltage at 20°C when car is off). You are measuring it in ACC mode, so it should be slightly below 12.5V, maybe 11V to 12V depending on the no. of accessories installed in your car. It is better to use multi-meter to measure when the car is off as most of the
accessories will be off too. If it is lower than 11V, it is confirm discharged.

9V to 9.5V is already discharged. However, unlike conventional ICE car, our 12V battery just need very little power to turn on the ECUs and SMRs to get it to READY. Our ICE is started by MG1 and the much larger traction battery. I believe if you left it un-driven for more than 2 days, it may get below 9V and you may need to jump-start it.

After I've replaced my battery, I still continue to monitor the voltage. I don't know if it is the battery itself or some short circuit in the accessories that cause the battery to drain. After more than 2 weeks now, the voltage is consistently at 12.8V so it seems it is the battery dead due to age (6.5 yrs).
