2012 148K P261C Engine coolant pump b control circuit low P3190 poor engine performance P0517 Battery temp sensor circuit high P0A0F engine failed to start C1259 HV control system regenerative malfunction C1310 HV system malfunction C1657 hybrid powertrain control module (Went into the garage with P0117 Engine coolant temp circuit low input, P148F Engine coolant pump over revolution, P0517 battery temp sensor circuit high.) Plan was to replace water pump and do maintenace while in there, spark plugs and clean egr. I drove car into garage yesterday. Removed and cleaned EGR system, pcv and intake/throttle body and replaced spark plugs with some NGK's. I took engine coolant pump off because it was throwing a code and I am waiting on a new one. I tried to start the car with everything back together besides the water pump/coolant and it doesnt run or runs for 15 seconds if I clear the codes then shuts down. Something is messed up and I dont know what. I was surprised by how easy the intake and egr was to take off and clean.(had oil and gunk in it) I really was expecting it to run great now. Iv worked on many cars (not hybrids) and was expecting the job to be harder and I am very confident that the car is back together correctly. It has to be a sensor or the new spark plugs. Just the 7 codes dosnt help me narrow down the problem too much. Any help would be appreciated.
I think the OP has to consider the possibility that the car has at least two unrelated problems: 1. The engine coolant pump should be installed before an attempt is made to start the car, since the engine ECU is monitoring the status of the coolant pump as indicated by DTC P261C. 2. DTC P0517 indicates a malfunction in the thermistor sensor that monitors the 12V battery temperature. That thermistor is located above the 12V battery on the battery bracket. The wiring harness that connects to the sensor should be carefully inspected, and resistance across the sensor should be measured. The resistance can range from around 3,400 ohms at 50 degrees F to 1,000 ohms at 100 degrees F. If the resistance given the ambient air temp seems appropriate, then there may be a fault with the wiring harness.
OK. Down to P3190 poor engine performance and P0A0F engine failed to start. I think the only logical answer is spark plugs or leak in the manifold (only things i touched). I wish it would run longer than 15 seconds and throw a real code and not just generic ones. I am very glad the HV codes went away. I put the battery on charge and noticed the temp sensor on the battery was unplugged (was probably unplugged for a long time but doesnt throw a code). and got the water pump in. After compairing the old with the new one it was bad and the impeller failed to "extend".
How’s your fuel pump? Good to hear all other codes have gone away, but fuel delivery shouldn’t be ruled out. How’s the impeller feel when it was rotated on the old pump? Good luck and keep us posted .
I doubt the engine is running for 15 seconds. More likely, MG1 is spinning the engine for 15 seconds trying to start the engine, until the hybrid ECU gives up and logs P0A0F. To confirm my assertion depress the accelerator pedal at the time you think the engine is running and see if the RPM increases. If it does not that is proof the engine is not running. Of course each time you do this you are draining the high voltage traction battery a bit more.
Gosh Dang it boys. Got it figured out. I was going back in to take the manifold off and noticed the PCV hose was off. I guess it was my fault all along. Sorry to waste your time. Simply hooked it up and once I cleared the codes everything is back to normal. Engine wouldnt run to hear the vac leak so that didn't help. I jumped the gun, the codes were just scaring me as I only had this car about 2 weeks and am not familiar with all its quirks yet. The old pump runs good, I bench tested it with 12V and it fires right up. Spins by hand just about as hard as the other one did. On the new pump the impeller has a spring behind it and it moves in and out. My old one seems to have lost that function.
You're sure you reconnected the PCV hose to both the intake manifold and the PCV valve? Also, you reconnected the large vacuum line to the throttle body? Either of these oversights will cause P0A0F/P3190. I know because I've done both ...
Good to know, I thought engine was running. I guess I dont know the cranking vs running sound on this car as they sound almost the same.
