This entertainment system is making me crazy. In my PiP if I picked "All Albums" by a particular artist I got a listing of songs sorted by album, then by track number. In the Prime it sorts all the songs alphabetically so all of the songs from different albums are all jumbled together. This is particularly irritating for multi-disk albums. Instead of playing all the tracks from disk 1 and then all the tracks from disk 2, the Prime plays all of the tracks #1 from each disk and then all of the tracks #2 from each disk and so on.

Is there any way to change that behavior short of spending an entire weekend re-organizing my music library to be named in a particular way to work around the Prime's insistence on strict alphabetical order?

EDIT - I should add that the files are tagged appropriately with the disk number

For example, if I select ALBUM and choose Pink Floyd's The Wall, it should list the tracks and play in this order:

    DISK 1
    1. In The Flesh?
    2. The Thin Ice
    3. Another Brick In The Wall Part 1
    4. The Happiest Days Of Our Lives
    5. Another Brick In The Wall Part 2
    6. Mother
    7. Goodbye Blue Sky
    8. Empty Spaces
    9. Young Lust
    10. One Of My Turns
    11. Don't Leave Me Now
    12. Another Brick In The Wall Part 3
    13. Goodbye Cruel World

    DISK 2
    1. Hey You
    2. Is There Anybody Out There?
    3. Nobody Home
    4. Vera
    5. Bring The Boys Back Home
    6. Comfortably Numb
    7. The Show Must Go On
    8. In The Flesh
    9. Run Like Hell
    10. Waiting For The Worms
    11. Stop
    12. The Trial
    13. Outside The Wall

The way the Prime lists and plays it:

    1. Hey You
    1. In The Flesh?
    2. Is There Anybody Out There?
    2. The Thin Ice
    3. Another Brick In The Wall Part 1
    3. Nobody Home
    4. The Happiest Days Of Our Lives
    4. Vera
    5. Another Brick In The Wall Part 2
    5. Bring The Boys Back Home
    6. Comfortably Numb
    6. Mother
    7. Goodbye Blue Sky
    7. The Show Must Go On
    8. Empty Spaces
    8. In The Flesh
    9. Run Like Hell
    9. Young Lust
    10. One Of My Turns
    10. Waiting For The Worms
    11. Don't Leave Me Now
    11. Stop
    12. Another Brick In The Wall Part 3
    12. The Trial
    13. Goodbye Cruel World
    13. Outside The Wall

This is an example of how each song is tagged:

    Artist Name : Pink Floyd
Track Title : In The Flesh
    Album Title : The Wall
    Date : 1979
    Track Number : 8
    Disc Number : 2

I tried renaming the files so that they'd all be in the same folder and sorted by disc and track number (e.g., 1.01, 1.02, etc.), but that had no effect. So I tried making the track number in the MP3 tag follow the same format. Protip: don't do that. Entune lost it's mind and selecting songs would play other songs. So, it seems, that it's literally impossible in Entune to play tracks from a multidisc album in order.

I use the folders view, and adding a prefix to the name (01., 02., etc) it plays them in that order.

It is unique in it's ignoring of subfolders. All folders are shown at the same level, no matter if they are organized (artist folders, with subfolders for albums, etc).

I find myself renaming files just for entune playback.

Also (peeve) why does entune not see any meta data?

Folder view is not an option I can find. I have ARTIST, ALBUM, SONG. That's it. The data used to compile those lists are taken from the track metadata.

You should be able to toggle back and forth among "FOLDERS" "ARTISTS" "ALBUMS" "SONGS" "GENRES" and "COMPOSERS" by touching the "<" and ">" to the left and right of the headings:

    USB-select-artist-screens.jpg

The other advice in this discussion thread is useful. I have found the following file structure to be useful:

    - Artist Name
    - Album Title I
    - 01 first song name.mp3
    - 02 second song name.mp3
    - 03 third song name.mp3
    - Album Title II
    - 01 first song name.mp3
    - 02 second song name.mp3

You need to begin each mp3 file name with a number corresponding to the track number on the album. They will then play in order when you select the album's folder. (Because most albums have more than 9 tracks, you should use two digit number so that track 01 is followed by track 02, and not track 1 followed by track 10.)

As you point out, the track indexing is done using the mp3 metadata for everything except FOLDER.

(If you are using a CD-to-mp3 ripping program like NCH's "Express Rip", you can configure the program to automatically title the resulting mp3 files in this way. You also can rip to mp3 with a higher bit rate which will create somewhat larger files but produce much better sound quality. Bit rates range from 96 to 320 kilobytes per second (Kbps) with early mp3 players using the lower bit rate to reduce file size. With multi-gigabyte USB "thumb drives" readily available, file size is no longer an issue and you should set your ripping/recording software to use a higher bit rate. I have found that 256 Kbps works well with the JBL audio system in the Prime.)

    Hope this helps.

My Entune doesn't have that option. I have Artists, Albums, and Songs on screen 1, and Genres and Composers on the next screen. There are no more options right or left. Maybe a difference between the plus and the other trims?

Quite likely. My blurry photos were of the screen in my Advanced Prime. The way the USB browse and select functions work is far from being the greatest -- and it sounds like the user interface on Plus and Premium sound systems may be even more limited.

Sorry my post was not of help to you. :(

No problem. Thanks for the assist. I'm still in disbelief that the software developers never thought of people listening to songs on multi-disc albums in the order they are on the album. It's not even a "problem" to be solved, it's just sorting by album -> disc # -> track instead of album -> track.

The Pink Floyd example was bad enough, but I have a collection of Mozart symphonies that spans 10 CDs and I can only listen to them by playing 10 track 1's, then 10 track 2's, etc. (n)

Have you tried creating a playlist and putting the tracks in the exact order that you want? It should play it in order if you select that playlist and turn off shuffle. (Or RAND)

The plus trim doesn't support playlists :(

Hmm. We have a 2016 Prius with the 7” Display Audio so it’s the same unit as the Prime Plus trim. With an iPhone or iPod, there is a playlist option under “Browse”

My manual specifically says playlists are not supported and the M3U files on my flash drive are ignored. There is also no option to select playlists, only artist, album, song, genre, and composer.

The whole song order thing drives me crazy.... ever try listening to an audio book? For some reason, when you hit skip it doesn't go to the next track but some other track 20 or so away from where you are... then in a closed loop that never, ever, hits the next track. The only way is to pull over, then bring up the whole song list (which it won't let you do when your driving for safety reasons, so instead I pull over on the shoulder of the road which is apparently much better) and select the track you want.

Another epic fail in the entune system.

I select BROWSE and it goes back to the artist I'm listening to. Then I select the album I'm listening to. That brings up the song list. Clearly less dangerous than pressing a LIST button. ;)
