I recently received the Techstream diagnostics kit and when I finally got it to work on my Windows 10 laptop, the health report shows no battery detail at all. I cleared the codes with my OBD11 scanner prior to the kit arriving. Would clearing the code affect the data or lack thereof? Should the health report show all batteries' status or just the bad ones associated with trouble codes? I'm getting nothing in the HV battery windows.
Have you tried to get to the voltages for each block via the menus? You’ll find them in the Hybrid tab. If you reset the system, diagnostic codes may not appear, but the sensors will still work and rely way they read. Good luck and keep us posted .
The codes won't reset until the readiness monitors reset (are turned back on in the ECU.) You should be able to read the voltages for each of the battery modules. Don't remember how to get to that screen, but someone will surely pipe up.
I'm finding nothing under the Hybrid tab. Just a blank spread sheet. Could my tool be defective? How can I test it? I don't have access to another Toyota Hybrid.
Where in the mid Atlantic region are you more specifically located? What version of Techstream are you running? Are other tabs pulling up, or is this the only one?
By “Techstream diagnostics kit,” do you mean to the Techstream Lite kit from Toyota with the MongoosePro MFC2 vehicle interface cable, or something else? If you’re using a different vehicle interface, which one? In principle, you could do a basic test with any Toyota or Lexus vehicle that is old enough to use the ISO 14230 protocol on the so-called K-line (DLC3 terminal 7), rather than the CAN bus interface found on later models. As @Raytheeagle kindly asked, are you able to read information from other ECUs? What about non-battery information from the hybrid vehicle control ECU?
I'm just south of the DC area. Fredericksburg. I'm running version 13.00.022 Only a few tabs are pulling up. It seems suspiciously sparse. Is my version too old?
My cable has a sticker that says: Mini-VCI J2534 Standard OBDII Communications Interface My Techstream version is 13.00.022. There's not much information I'm able to pull up. Maybe it's my set up. I also own a 2001 Toyota Avalon. I will attempt the tests on it tomorrow.
I'm definitely using something else. I purchased mine off of Ebay. The Mongoose Pro MFC2 costs what the car costs me, lol. I paid $450 for this car. I couldn't make myself spend that much on a tool I may never use again. I hope there's a more reasonable option if I can't use what I purchased.
In would try an earlier version of Techstream personally. I have version 10.30.029 and it has all the menus and works well. I bought the J2534 protocol single off of amazon for $20 a couple of years back. I share the setup and Prolong equipment with a couple members here and we tried a version 12.10.024 I think it was and it didn’t have some of the options or menus of version 10. Maybe try an earlier version and see if there is a difference? Good luck and keep us posted .
That version is definitely new enough for a 2002 Prius, which was originally designed to be connected to the older Toyota Diagnostic Tester (referred to in the Repair Manual as the “hand-held tester”), not to any version of the Techstream software, which wasn’t introduced until 2007 but supports all 1996 and later models. The quality of the inexpensive, imported vehicle interfaces sold on eBay and similar sites, and the associated device driver and SAE J2534 interface software, varies greatly. Perhaps you have one that doesn’t work, or works only with newer (CAN bus) vehicles.
I'm waiting to hear back from the Seller to see if they can assist me in this and if not, I'll just buy the suggested 10.30.029 version you suggested. Thanks!
I reached out to the Seller and he sent me a previous version. It worked well. (It turns out that the previous version that he sent me was on my original disk.) Can someone help me analyze the data? What am I looking for? The voltages seem consistent.
Block voltages look good and internal resistance looks fine. What other menus do you have and what codes are being displayed?
I focused on the HV BATTERY tab and this data screen mainly, but I seemed to have access to all other menus. The only trouble code I get occasionally is the P3006 that accompanies the red triangle. After I reset it with my OBDII, the car will drive for quite a time before it happens again. No other codes show up. I just watched a Youtube video where a person monitored the batteries during a live test, but I didn't understand how he or she came to the conclusion that a particular cell was bad. It wasn't in English.
Do a google search for the P3006 and most hits will come back here. Look at the gen1’s that apply and see what others have found and done. Glad to see 10.30.029 is working and keep us posted .
